4/19/09 Pastor Alex's sermon: Relationships
Genesis 1:26-31, Genesis 2:18-25, Exodus 34:14, Luke 18:18-23
God created us to be in relationship with Him and others.
Genesis 1:26-31 God created man in his own image and gave him dominion over the earth: plants, animals. God, Jesus, Holy Spirit made us for relationship. Genesis 2:18-25 God made the animals and Eve, the woman, for relationship.
vs 24.
We should NEVER lose enthusiasm for our relationship with the Lord. We were created by God for RELATIONSHIP!!
We need to read the Word over and over again so we can have conversation/relationship with God by hearing the Holy Spirit talk to us. The Lord wants RELATIONSHIP with us.
We start from a fallen state. Sin seperates us from God and we hide from God like Adam & Eve did after they ate the fruit and saw that they were naked. Things that hinder us from having a relationship with God are: Our personality- positive or negative. When we are in the spirit: positive. When we are in the flesh: negative and seperate from God. Our Spiritual gift- if we have this gift without God, its a clanging cymbal and not useful for God.
Exodus 34:14 God is a jealous God. He doesn't like anything that will seperate us from Him. He is jealous of sin and wants all of us for himself. God is Jealous! Relationships are HARD and we need God's spirit to be working in our circumstances. We need to CRY OUT to God for help. He wants to help us and we need to be fervent in our pursuit of God. Be passionate, emotional and persistent in our prayer to Him. We need to be open, broken and humble in our crying out to Him. Be Fervent!! God wants us to be fervent in our relationship with Him. Then we can be fervent in our relationships with others.
Luke 18:18-23 Rich man was asked by Jesus where he was. The guy said he was doing good. Jesus told him to donate his money to the poor and follow Him. The man suddenly faded away. Money was more important to him then a relationship with Jesus.
God wants to show us the areas where we are weak and need more work on. Instead, we sometimes dig our feet into the sand and say "thats just the way we are" or "this is how God made me". We need to let go of the negative things in us and let God fix us, change us and have relationship with Him. It is IMPOSSIBLE to come into the presence of God and not be changed.
Serving others is Tops with God. He says that to be good in relationships, we need to serve others. We need to serve our wife, serve our husband and serve our boss. Serving Christians make the best employees and bosses want more of us. Serving God and serving each other will make us have Victory over satan in our community.
