Teaching ThinkingPosted : 19 Dec, 2013 07:46 PMWe can teach people to memorize Bible verses. We can teach them doctrine. We may even be able to teach them to follow rules. :( But how do we teach people to think for themselves, to actually think in anything other then clichs? |

Teaching ThinkingPosted : 20 Dec, 2013 06:30 PMThis is a great question and quite a quandary for anyone that is a thinker. I find that if I keep asking someone why they think something they have stated or ask them why they believe that and keep at it we will eventually reach the point where they will see that they need to find their own answers and learn not to accept everything they read or hear and Truth. |

Teaching ThinkingPosted : 27 Dec, 2013 10:01 AMIt's really the biggest trick in the world, and I think it's what the bible is teaching us to do, and I think it's literally what happens when one is truly converted/born again. The bible teaches us to separate our minds/spirits from our flesh/lusts. No pride, no ego, no selfishness. Pure logic and self-awareness is what I consider to be "converted". If someone can reflect inward and see their deficiencies and be able to change into the likeness of logical perfection(Jesus), then they are born again. How to teach that to someone? I believe that only the example of Christ's love and sacrifice can truly cause "blind" people to look at themselves and see what they are, to see what it was that tortured and killed the only Being that really cares about them. Christ's love awakens our hearts, Christ's love applied in the lives of people can plant that seed which leads to a self-aware person who can think for themselves without the influence of their own flesh or ego or peer-pressure or society, etc. I really am convicted that Christ's mission here on earth was much more complicated than we typically think of. Why did Christ have to be sinless? Because that is the only kind of sacrifice that would convict us of our own sinfulness, but the psychological ramifications that it all entails is really a great study into our own minds and the true depth of God's plan. What is really in control in your brain? What really controls your life? The "lust of the eyes"? The "lust of the flesh"? The "pride of life"? Think about it. |
