A person can handle a little bit of poison over a long period of time without dying. But it will make him sick, weak, disoriented and in the end will kill him. So it is with Arminianism. Eventually the RC church rejected Augustine and his predestination and "Calvinist" teachings. It went totally Arminian. It took time but eventually you had a church that was sick, weak, disoriented and in the end spiritually dead. The Reformation was a massive revival led by the Holy Spirit and certain truths like total depravity. Luther called his book against freewill the Bondage of the Will the Magna Carta of the Reformation. Satan hates the Reformation and the Doctrines of Grace re-established by it. He knows he needs to work slowly. And slowly but surely he re-introduced the old lie - man's effort is what will save him - that old lie of "freewill" and "you shall be as God". The mid 1700's was the turning point as arminianism crept back in, being supported by liberals and all the cults. This false "other gospel" has slowly poisoned the church so that now we have such garbage as the altar call, TV evangelists, prosperity gospel, and a whole man-centered way of worship. The church, which post reformation TOTALLY SHAPED the world, has so much lost the power, become so sick, weak, disoriented and dead, that it has no impact, or rather the opposite. It is the object of humor and disdain. Mr. Phil of Duck Dynasty is not even allowed to express what the Bible says about homosexuality without being banned from his own show? If you take a step back - this terrible weakness in the church is all traced right back to the rejection of Reformed Theology and Calvinism.
