"The Bible's Main Message Is the Gospel About Jesus Christ Himself"

Are You Majoring on a Minor, While Minoring on THE Major?

Are You Promoting "It" or "Him?"

The main message of the Bible and our preaching is NOT:

1. Revival (some revivalists);

2. Apologetics (some apologists);

3. End times (some dispensationalists);

4. Obedience (duty-centered preachers);

5. Politics (some patriots & theonomists);

6. Holiness (some fundamentalists & pentecostals);

7. Any hobbyhorse doctrine (all the above & below);

8. The Holy Spirit (some charismatics & pentecostals);

9. Healing, miracles, or prosperity (the faith movement);

10. The altar call, decisions, or soul-winning (some arminians);

11. Love, morality, social issues, or the human mind (liberal theology);

12. Psychology, self-esteem, or positive thinking (some self-helpers);

13. Church history, the covenant of grace, a confession of faith, the Law/conviction of sin, the doctrines of grace, or systematic theology itself (some Calvinists & reformed);

14. A movement, group, denomination, institution, or organization (the Church of Rome, the Mormon Church, the Watchtower, or any other "we're the one true church")

None of those things can save us from our sin. Only Jesus can save. That's why the answer to the question, "what must I do to be saved?" is "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved..." (Acts 16:30-31)The main message of the Bible, and of our preaching is a living person: Jesus Christ Himself. Immature Christians over-emphasize their favorite, hobbyhorse doctrines. But, secondary, Biblical truths must take their place complementary to Him.

The Bible's unifying theme is God's one eternal purpose in Christ to redeem sinners to the praise of His glory (Eph. 1). The Son's appointed role is to be the star of redemptive history. It's been said, that the Bible's main message is about Christ Who would come (the prophets), Who has come (the gospels), and Who will come again (the epistles).

Beware of studying or preaching the Bible, while missing the main message: Jesus Christ Himself. Know Christ, then preach Christ!

Moses & The Prophets' Main Message Is Jesus Christ Himself:

"And beginning at Moses & all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." (Lk. 24:27)

"written in the Law of Moses & the Prophets & the Psalms concerning Me." (Lk. 24:44)

"...We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, & also the prophets, wrote - Jesus of Nazareth..." (Jn. 1:45)

"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; & these are they which testify of Me." (Jn. 5:39)

"For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me." (Jn. 5:46)

"To Him all the prophets witness..." (Acts 10:43)

Jesus' Main Message Is Jesus Christ Himself:

"I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, & he who believes in Me shall never thirst." (Jn. 6:35)

"I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (Jn. 8:12)

"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved..." (Jn. 10:9)

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." (Jn. 10:11)

"I am the resurrection & the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live." (Jn. 11:25)

"I am the way, the truth, & the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (Jn. 14:6)

"I am the vine, you are the branches for without Me you can do nothing." (Jn. 15:5)

The Holy Spirit's Main Message Is: Jesus Christ Himself:

"But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me." (Jn. 15:26)

"He will glorify Me, for he will take of what is Mine & declare [it] to you." (Jn. 16:14)

The Apostles' Main Message Is Jesus Christ Himself:

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me..." (Acts 1:8)

"and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before," (Acts 3:20)

"And daily in the temple, & in every house, they did not cease teaching & preaching Jesus as the Christ." (Acts 5:42)

"Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria & preached Christ to them." (Acts 8:5)

"Then Philip opened his mouth, & beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him." (Acts 8:35)

"...he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God." (Acts 9:20)

"And He commanded us to preach to the people, & to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living & the dead." (Acts 10:42)

"But some of them...spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus." (Acts 11:20)

"This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ." (Acts 17:3)

"...he preached to them Jesus & the resurrection." (Acts 17:18)

"...Paul was compelled by the Spirit, & testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ." (Acts 18:5)

"...'We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.'" (Acts 19:13)

"...we preach Christ crucified..." (1 Cor. 1:23)

"...I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you...that Christ died for our sins & that He was buried, & that He rose again..." (1 Cor. 5:1-4)

"For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us..." (2 Cor. 1:19)

"For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord,..." (2 Cor.4:5)

"...to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles..." (Gal. 1:16)

"...I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ..." (Eph. 3:8)

"...Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached..." (Ph. 1:18)"Him we preach..." (Col. 1:28)

"God was manifested in the flesh,...Preached among the Gentiles" (1 Tim. 3:16)

So, have you been majoring on a minor, while minoring on THE major? If so, then restore your balance: The gospel of Jesus Christ first, followed by everything else second.

Know Him. Trust Him. Worship Him. Love Him. Obey Him. Follow Him. And, Proclaim HIM.
