" That covenant (the Old Covenant) ended with the first coming of Jesus Christ at His death". Let's consider that today.

The problem is there is one Bible verse which says that the Covenant should be OBSOLETE!

Let's read it together to understand that:

Hebrews 8

The New Priestly Service

8 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4 For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, ?See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.? 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

A New Covenant

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: ?Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah? 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ?Know the Lord,? for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.?

13 In that He says, ?A new covenant,? He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Look again:

But now He (the SON of God) has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a BETTER COVENANT, which WAS established on better promises.

Because finding fault with them, He (GOD) says: ?Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a NEW covenant with the house of Israel ....(ref.to Jeremiah 31)

13 In that He says, ?A NEW covenant,? He has made the first OBSOLETE. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to VANISH away.

Summary:

Jesus is Mediator of a better covenant, which WAS established on better promises. He is our High Priest.

There is already a NEW COVENANT established by God and the FIRST covenant is obsolete and it will vanish away.

Let's consider now what is the Old Covenant:

As we considered before, there are many covenant God made with Jews. Let's analyze tha major one:

The Covenant Made with Israelies/Jews

Before the Ten Commandments were given at Sinai, what did God first propose to Israel/Jews? Exodus 19:4-6.

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will OBEY my voice indeed, and KEEP my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

After God had proposed this Covenant to Moses, Moses came down from the mountain and presented it to the leaders and elders of Israel. What was the response of the elders of Israel? Exodus 19:8.

And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

After Israel had promised to abide by the Covenant proposed by God, the Ten Commands were given, detailed civil laws, judgments, statutes and precepts....

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be OBEDIENT. And Moses took the BLOOD, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

After the people affirmed that they would perform ?all the Eternal had said? and would be obedient to him, the covenant was ratified with blood!

Summary:

The Old Covenant was based upon blessings for Israel keeping the letter of the Law?which Israel FAILED to do. Remember that the Old Covenant was made with Israel only. NOTE that the spiritual law upon which it was based is eternal.

But God deceided to conclude a NEW Covenant with Israel and all believers/"spiritual" Israel. And the laws God promised to write on our hearts!

My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
