The fear of the LORD

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, Scripture tells us. Fear of real danger can be a healthy attitude. When we see God for all the good things we like about Himsalvation, grace, mercy, love, etc.and yet ignore His other very real characteristicsjudgment, law, wrath, holinesswe have created an abstract God, one of our own creation. We must let God define Himself and His work and accept all that He is. We cannot cherry-pick what we like about God and present this abstraction of a deity as the God of Scripture. Neither can we try to supplement what God has said as though we were His copy editor supplying what He neglected and then pass it off as God-words. ~ Mark R. Rushdoony

Prov 9:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Yes, Truthbeknown.

Fear is the beginning in the imaturity of man to bring man to God and His word. The maturing past fear is learning the love of God and living in the love of God free from torment.

In God are we not free from torment and comdemnation? In God are we not the recipients of great love?

In God are we not to be children of love?

Does God command us to promote fear or love? Does God command us to bring fear to people or love? Does God command us to love people out of bondage or create bondage through fear? Does fear draw people to God or Does love? What do you prefer fear or love?

I hear you promoting fear but where are you promoting Gods love? I hear you arguing over calvinism and Armin.... but where in your studies are you learning and promoting love?

Proverbs 1:7The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge:

but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

2 Timothy 1:7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

****

As a child I feared my parents because if I disobeyed them they would/could punish me...a healthy type of fear out of respect for their authority over me. As an adult I don't fear my parents but I still have a respect for them and, even though I don't agree with them on everything, I still respect them and do my best to honor them.

Fearing God is based on His authority over us and the knowledge that He can/will punish us for our sins.

Once we are saved, that fear becomes more of respect for His awesome power and our desire to please Him.
