Personally, when I fast, I don't eat anything and I focus completely on God. No work, no TV, nothing but prayer and study. I listen to Christian music as I read my Bible. I might watch a few sermons on the Christian TV channels on satellite. Just spending time getting closer to God. It works very well.

Blessings,

Leon

First and foremost, make sure you are ready and healthy for such an occasion, assuming that is that you will be fasting for something like 7 days or what have you. A person that starves themselves for a long period of time without jumping from a healthy diet can potentially get really sick.

There are a lot of guides on this subject that can be founded via google, so I'd certainly suggest starting there. And while on that subject, I highly suggest reading: How to Eat to Live, by: Elijah Muhammad. I'm no fan of the man, but this book of his is the one thing he managed to get right on, not that some of his other advice wasn't sane, but you know...

Secondly, make sure that you are sincerely up for this, as it will not do you much good, if you are constantly contended with your self...

...fighting with fatigue, restlessness, etc. As Jesus said:

6) His disciples questioned Him and said to Him, "Do you want

us to fast? How shall we pray? Shall we give alms? What diet

shall we observe?"

Jesus said, "Do not tell lies, and do not do what you hate,

for all things are plain in the sight of Heaven. For nothing

hidden will not become manifest, and nothing covered will remain

without being uncovered."

- Gospel of Thomas

Then again if you are new to this, I'd certainly advise giving it a short three day trial. If you new to something like this, then you will certainly experience a large amount of stress, fatigue, and the like. You body, and mind are conditioned for anything but such discipline, so in that respect you will have to work your way up to,"being still and knowing", so keep that in mind and don't get discouraged if at first you find it hard to deal with it all. Practice makes near perfect. ;)

Anyhow, that being said, once you've got your heart and mind into this, once you got your body and mind un-conditioned, and a bit more free from their every day, sensory gratification loop...

...I'd highly suggest (if you have this option) spending your fast out in the woods away from civilization, away from noiz, away from society and the influence that goes with "them".

Granted you can do this anywhere, but it seems to me to be more rewarding when I surround my self with Nature/God's Kingdom on Earth, than with man produced noiz and visuals you know?

Oh and before I look like I'm being a jerk, let me state that The Bible and related Musick were not the man made noiz I was talking about. Just wanted to make that clear. :)

I was talking more about tell-lie-vision, the business of the city, automobiles, cell phones, the socially indoctrinated masses, etc.

Brother Leon gave you a good answer. I agree with him.

The key is you must devote time to God to make the fast valid if not you just went on a hunger strike:ROFL:

Because the whole purpose of the fast is to DENY YOURSELF AND TO GIVE OF YOURSELF TO GOD.

Exactly my point from the Gospel of Thomas...

...be sure you are doing your fast with a purity of mind and heart...

...not because someone told you you must do it, or because you think you must do it, but because you feel compelled, because you want to discipline yourself (your body your mind) in order to be more receptive to The Lord.

Thank you for the information guys.

But i am still confuse. If the christians do fasting, when should it be started and ended? Is it early in the morning to evening (Just like what moslems do at their fasting month)?

Do we christians do fasting whole day long or for certain hours?

Thank you again.

I don't believe there is any magick as to what time you start and end, though timing can be highly symbolic or can influence your experience...

Considering Jesus was a Jew and that we seek to walk more and more in Jesus' foot steps, I would think it proper to imitate Jewish tradition.
