A main question: Does God/creator prohibit us to drink wine?

1 Timothy 5:23

Drink no longer water, >>but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. > not given to much wine,

Gardens,

I have not seen any scripture that forbids us to drink any alcoholic beverage. However there are several that warn us about drunkenness. Paul says that all things are lawful for us, but that we should not be brought under the power of any.

So in my opinion, if you are not getting drunk, and your behavior does not deteriorate when you drink, if you are not addicted to it, then it is lawful for you. Just my 2 cents.

Blessings, Lydia

I originally had more written; somehow it did not publish?

I hope the verses show; if not the whole paste, ref. are

Titus 2:3, I Timothy 6:19-21 and II Timothy 2:16

a verse in Titus 2:3

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, (not given to much wine), teachers of good things;

Expository study is bringing in all verses on a subject for balance before conclusion. And some standards apply for all subjects in health like: 1 Timothy 6:19-21

19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

2 Timothy 2:16

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

It not a sin to drink but it is a sin to become a drunkard.

The comparison is being filled with The Spirit or being filled with wine. There is a struggle of the Spirit against the flesh.

Ephesians 5:17-19,

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Some people may take this verse and ask how drunk can you get before it is excess, lol? Generally speaking there can be a medicinal effect from small amounts of alcohol, about one drink. But any more it becomes a toxic effect.

Proverbs 31:5-7,

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Many people use alcohol for depression. They are known as alcoholics because alcohol is addictive.

But the bible gives another remedy for depression. Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Being filled with the Spirit and singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord stands in contrast to being drunk with wine.

2 Timothy 2:16, But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

I know the drunken babblings and ungodliness caused by alcohol. And most Christians abstain from alcohol because of all the pain and suffering it has caused in the world.

yes, though we surmise/hear that there are 'divisions' about the subject of alcohol, God's word is how to view, and not off the hip, so to speak. thank you everyone, for sharing, Bless you in endeavors.

I am praising God all day today, and I haven't had any wine.

As believers, we are 'working on understanding'; not arrived. My praise is--I sense many here are willing and will keep truckin'.

I remembered a verse about merry heart and wine: Psalm 104:15

15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

I like verse 14 also.

104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
