Psalm 145:1 I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.
5 They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6 They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.
9 The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All you have made will praise you, O LORD; your saints will extol you.
11 They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might,
12 so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.
14 The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.
Devotional:
Two squirrels were looking at my window while I was reading Psalm 145. The psalm says that they, along with us, are boarders in God's house. Almighty God, the head of this vast household, provides for the squirrels and for me. From his inexhaustible storehouses, the Father "satisfies the desires of every living thing." And he "fulfills the desires of those who fear him."
"The eyes of all look to you." Creation looks to God for provision like a dog looks to its master. It's a wordless look, a mute request. When the Master opens his hand, all is well. But while creation makes wordless requests, "those who fear him" must verbalize their requests. We must pray. "The LORD is near to all who call on him.... He fulfills the desires of those who fear him." We must call on him and ask.
Our Father takes care of our daily needs, as he has promised. Jesus said, "Look at the birds; your Father feeds them, and you are much more valuable" (Luke 12:24). In fact. Scripture says God will not only supply our needs but will also fulfill our desires.
And what do we desire? People who love God desire God. This is the one desire we are absolutely certain God will fulfill. He fulfills this desire by giving us Jesus Christ.
We will always find in him as much as we want. Probably we won't get as much as we could from him. And certainly we will never get as much as there is.
G-d satisfies all desires, because He gives all desires, even the desires of the wicked. Where else could all originate, except with the Fount of All?
In answer to the next question. "How can one state that "G-d gives and then grants all desires, including the desires of the wicked?"
He uses agents, and therefore is not responsible what that which the agents cause.
Look at the scripture in Revelation 17:17, and of how it states that He puts their desires for them [the seed of darkness] to give their kingdom to the beast, until His purposes in them are fulfilled:
"For G-d hath put in their [Satan's seed] hearts to fulfil his will [as vessels of wrath - fitted to destruction], and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the [2nd] beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled."
He has given you, "Miss", every desire that has ever guided and shaped your thoughts and path in life:
"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." [I Qolosim/Colossians 2:13]
The creatures in heaven do His will, willingly and gladly, and on earth men do His will grudgingly and reluctantly, but they do accomplish His perfect will!!!
