Yes, we have the ability, but If youre going where I think you are going with this question, the answer is we do not have the right. Jeremiah and King David have told us that (we, all humans are created by G-d). However there are some that have cursed the day of their conception (Job, Jeremiahlol). I was 21 when I got pregnant with my son. I never married the father, in fact, we broke up and my son is autistic. He is now 20 years old. But when I talk to G-d about my son, Jacob, He reminds me of when He said in Deuteronomy Is it not I who made the death and the mute. And I know my son was perfectly and wonderfully created in my womb and He is G-ds responsibility (ultimately) and I rest in Him.

Absolutely, just like we have the choice to obey or disobey the will of God.

Jonah initially disobeyed His will.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

How prideful you are to rob God of his glory.

Numbers 20:7And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9 And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him.

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

**** in this passage Moses was told by God how to get water from the rocks. Moses disobeyed God, God still brought forth water, and Moses was punished for not obeying the will of God.

Both Jonah and Moses were CHOSEN by God - both willfully disobeyed God, Jonah clearly by CHOICE - also known as free will

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

*** the only time I take honor and glory from God is when I CHOOSE not to do His will, to obey Him ****

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

*** pretty clear here that if I chose not to do right, I'm sinning...the only way I wouldn't do right is to willfully disobey God...and, yes, I've done it...as we all have, even those who have been saved or 'elected'

You can not choose anything except sin until the holy spirit changes your heart. Until you are chosen.

The Will Question?

I chose a lot of things before I was saved. I chose to obey or not obey my parents who taught me the fundamentals of the Bible. I chose not to steal or to lie...sometimes I chose to do those things. Because I understood the consequences of those choices, I learned to obey my parents.

Because I learned what sin is in God's eyes, learned the punishment for sin, and learned that I could not pay that penalty own my own...even if I obeyed all of God's laws, I learned that when Jesus died on the cross He paid mt death penalty (my punishment for sin), then I asked Him to forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from my unrighteousness, and He did it.

I did not save my self. I was receptive to the teaching and preaching of God's Word and understood that I needed a Saviour.

I've asked on other threads...and am still waiting for an answer...how do you know that you are saved? How do you know that you are 'elected'? This a fundamental question.

The Father has to draw man to him first and man repents and turns from Sin.

Amen
