Our advantages are more than we can count.

1 Peter 1:10�12



Bible Text:



[The prophets] were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel ... by the Holy Spirit.... Angels long to look into these things (1 Pet. 1:12).



Devotional:



The prophets of the Old Testament always said more than they themselves understood. That's because the Spirit used their tongues and their pens. The true meaning of their prophecy was not made clear until God's time had come. Then God revealed the secret. But the prophets spoke of things they never witnessed and of a Savior they never saw.



However, we have heard the good news, and the Holy Spirit himself has explained the meaning of Christ's death and resurrection. Christ and his Spirit are the great fulfillment and illumination of all that happened during the time of the prophets.



Our advantages are more than we can count. The people of the Old Testament wove the tapestry, and we see the design. They contributed the parts, and we see the whole.



We have more privileges than the prophets. But our advantages also exceed those of the angels. In many respects angels are better and wiser than we are. In fact, we pray that we may do God's will on earth as the angels do it in heaven. Yet angls will never know what we know: the forgiving love of God in Jesus Christ. They know the splendor of the throne, but we know the mystery of the cross.



The children of the present era know God better than anyone at any time, because the Spirit has explained the gospel to them.
