Why did God command killing in OT?

Sister Shalom,

I wanted to qute you a verse of the Bible which answers to this question and I will repeat my answer to this question again:

Deuteronomy 9:5 It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness :devil:of these nations, the LORD your God will drive them out:bouncy: before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

I want to repeat what Richard says:

Because of Abraham and the Patriarchs God had chosen only Israel to be his HOLY nation. God said many times in the OT if you live with and intermarry with people who worship other gods and Satan you will surely fall away and this is exactly what happened.

God said that punishment for sin is DEATH that's why His judgment came to these evil nations...they were killed. And the holy nation was separated from their idols and false gods.

The same thing will happen soon on earth. God''s wrath will destroy armies which will attack Jerusalem during the Third World War and Jesus will descend with mighty angels to defend Jews. These nations will be destroyed. Why? It is what we call God's judgment against their sins. Again Israel will be FREE and God will dwell among them as always. Who is He? God Jesus.

Why people will be thrown to the lake of fire? It will be the second death for them?! Because it is God's judgment.

God's nature is JUSTICE- it means He is judging us because He is HOLY. It is not sin of God. No. It is His nature: LOVE and JUSTICE which is evident in RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION/WRATH against crimes/sins/sexual immorality/rapist......

I apologize in advance for not addressing the immediate subject at hand, but the last part of the original post (concerning God's right to judge and cast into hell) caught my attention and I'd like to add another possible perspective which might clear things up.

I think hell itself is a mercy, because just as God is infinitely holy and pure, he would overwhelmingly eradicate the imperfections in anyone not covered by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, while God does love all and would gladly invite everyone into heaven with him for all eternity, each of us must choose Christ in order to gain the cleansing blood covering that allows us to be in God's presence without being entirely wiped from existence. Infinite light will utterly annihilate darkness; it simply cannot exist. Infinite purity and holiness would eradicate anyone with sin found in him, therefore hell is a place without God BUT those who go there are mercifully allowed to continue existing. Hell is judgement, yes... but it's not so much of a judgement as a consequence for not choosing God.
