I also wanted to add that I learned it was to preserve a clean bloodline through which the Lord Jesus would come from the line of David. G-d had to have the tribes who contaminated this lineage removed to pave the way for salvation of the whole human race via Jesus's blood sacrifice. I appreciated your input on this perplexing issue.
