Why did God command killing in OT?Posted : 28 Jul, 2011 05:35 PMMaybe, this is a foolish question...but I don't understand why throughout the OT, especially Book of Joshua, where G-d gave orders to kill entire villages of people including children. Was this because they had mated with the fallen angels and had become a hybrid breed,(like in Genesis-before the flood) or was it because there was no sacrifice for their sinful ways, or was it because they were of the seed of Cain and were just plain evil and had to be eliminated? |

Why did God command killing in OT?Posted : 28 Jul, 2011 06:08 PMBecause of Abraham and the Patriarchs God had chosen only Israel to be his Sacred nation. God said many times in the OT if you live with and intermarry with people who worship other gods and Satan you will surely fall away and this is exactly what happened. |

Why did God command killing in OT?Posted : 29 Jul, 2011 09:56 AMBeen sitting here thinking about how to answer this for almost an hour now, reading around, and even contemplated emailing a rabbi mate of mine to ask his advice. Then it occured to me that the question implies that killing and death are counter to the notion of a loving God. When we don't do what God has commanded us to do, perhaps it's better that God 'starts over' with those souls bringing them to His presence, giving them a stern talking to, then putting them in new bodies? Afterall, if death isn't the end of our souls, it follows that sometimes it's better to cut your losses and begin again. Afterall, God would of course know with 100% certainty that death isn't the absolute end, so relative to Him death isn't what it appears as to us. For God, killing is just 'calling us into the Principle's office for a dressing down.' |
