Why did God command killing in OT?

Maybe, this is a foolish question...but I don't understand why throughout the OT, especially Book of Joshua, where G-d gave orders to kill entire villages of people including children. Was this because they had mated with the fallen angels and had become a hybrid breed,(like in Genesis-before the flood) or was it because there was no sacrifice for their sinful ways, or was it because they were of the seed of Cain and were just plain evil and had to be eliminated?

Thanks for any answer you may have.

Because of Abraham and the Patriarchs God had chosen only Israel to be his Sacred nation. God said many times in the OT if you live with and intermarry with people who worship other gods and Satan you will surely fall away and this is exactly what happened.

However in God's New Covenant with all nations we are commanded to always love our enemies and always offer up the other cheek. The only weapon we may use is the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Jesus has commanded us to love others just as He loved us.

Luke 6:27-30: Jesus commands, "But I tell you who hear Me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also, If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.!!"

2 Corinthians 10:3-7: "For though we live in the world,we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, but they have Divine Power to demolish strongholds??"

The Amish are one of the few groups that obey these commands.

Because people needed to be killed.

The Israelite's were not a large or powerful group of people, and other people groups regularly captured and enslaved them.

Whenever God chose, He would send the order to His people, and they would have to follow those orders, and God made certain they would win.

In Christ,

James

I want to repeat what Richard says:

Because of Abraham and the Patriarchs God had chosen only Israel to be his HOLY nation. God said many times in the OT if you live with and intermarry with people who worship other gods and Satan you will surely fall away and this is exactly what happened.

God said that punishment for sin is DEATH that's why His judgement came to these evil nations...they were killed. And the holy nation was separated from their idols and false gods.

The same thing will happen soon on earth. God''s wrath will destroy armies which will attack Jerusalem during the Third World War and and Jesus will descend with mighty angels to defend Jews. These nations will be destroyed. Why? It is what we call God's judgement against theur sins. Again Israel will be FREE and God will dwell among them as always. Who is He? God Jesus.

Why people wll be thrown to the lake of fire? It will be the second death for them?! Because it is God's judgement.

God's nature is JUSTICE- it means He is judging us because He is HOLY. It is not sin of God. No. It is His nature: LOVE and JUSTICE which is evident in RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION/WRATH against crimes/sins/sexual immorality/rapist......

*** Many speculate about this very thing...the Fallen Angels...they are very Real...no doubt in my mind...but thats a whole nother subject...I believe that Cain the brother of Abel, vanquished out of the Garden was sent Somewhere  because the Word/Scripture says so...and then there is the Land of Canna and Canannites as well as many other Ites...These tribes were Obviously not ALL Good...[ Corrupt ]...and God will do what He will do for He and He alone is Just & Righteous and a Respector of no one...I agree with a bit of Everyones view here...there is Truth to be found in All of it...xo

Been sitting here thinking about how to answer this for almost an hour now, reading around, and even contemplated emailing a rabbi mate of mine to ask his advice. Then it occured to me that the question implies that killing and death are counter to the notion of a loving God. When we don't do what God has commanded us to do, perhaps it's better that God 'starts over' with those souls bringing them to His presence, giving them a stern talking to, then putting them in new bodies? Afterall, if death isn't the end of our souls, it follows that sometimes it's better to cut your losses and begin again. Afterall, God would of course know with 100% certainty that death isn't the absolute end, so relative to Him death isn't what it appears as to us. For God, killing is just 'calling us into the Principle's office for a dressing down.'
