WOW, I can't believe this lovingcoman, what a trouble maker, mean he is OUT there.
What the bible says about the "M" word...CDFF censors the "M" word, so it is SELF PLEASURE:
NOTHING, GOT IT, NOTHING...
SELF PLEASURE is an activity that one has to be very honest with God about. There will be some religious folks who are going to point out that passage when the Dude "spills seed on the ground..that is referring to coitus interrupt-us, nothing more... See the Jewish folks were told to like have a lot of children and the Dude basically disobeys that. Otherwise, the records the religious folks use are very silly.
I SELF PLEASURE every once in a while. I am 57, single, don't do sex with the ladies. I have trained myself to stay in fellowship during the spectacle. See, sex is always available. The problem is the fantasy imagery thing, that is not cool and it is a sin.
Women do not SELF PLEASURE for the most part, there is no need to, they are physically different from men. I think it is necessary for some women to learn about their bodies. there are many women who face problems in marriage with painful intercourse, the inability to have an "O" (CDFF censors the "O" word)..BUT in general if a woman can bring herself to "O" once, well she can do it again with the right man, her husband decades later.
If there are any homosexual men out there...fantasy imagery is not really such a bad thing during that transition from same sex imagery to heterosexual imagery..not having the ability to feel attraction to the opposite sex is a real problem.
Engaging in SELF PLEASURE for men of all ages can be a problem if it is something that is relied on, like the attitude that sex is a need..it doesn't work that way...sex is a desire, intimacy, that interconnectedness with your wife is the need, emotional, spiritual, and mental...the physical part is the icing on the cake.

SirJames,
I said that..THERE IS NO BIBLICAL REFERENCE TO SELF-PLEASURE IN THE BIBLE...NON, NADA, DOES NOT EXIST as in condemnation.
The Onan thing I pointed out... He pulled out, that is all, not an act of "M" and not a condemnation of 'M"....It ain't in there, DUDE.
You might be talking about this one, SirJames:
Ezekiel 16:17 (NASB)
You also took your beautiful jewels made of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images that you might play the harlot with them.
The above verse refers to the Idolatry of Jerusalem...it is a visual, pointing out female "M", it just doesn't condemn it.
Say on, I am waiting for some real fireworks folks...

SirJames;
I am still wide awake. I know what's going on, so I am going to just plain say it. What I have in my hands right now is a human heart, its not my heart, guess again. I have that heart and I am doing what I can to squeeze, massage and bring that life back.
The "M" thing, the fact that God does not condemn it, even reference it, is due to one thing..."God is love"..God is the ultimate adult. God leaves the "M" thing up to personal choice. God does let us know the boundaries, "lustful thoughts".
I know in my heart that what you want is to put a 12" blade in your mouth, travel to Mississippi and gut a croc or an alligator, what you want is to get on that 1200CC motorcycle and take it up to 110MPH with the bugs gritting your teeth, holding that baby on the road and riding without a care in the world.
Be nice, be an expert on an obscure theological system, come on....sit down with a date and watch "glee come on.
You are just like me, we love to go to the Walmart spot an attractive female without a ring and say "I think you are very attractive'...we say it and we shut up, maybe she says something like "what, are you on crack or something"...we say, "no, I was just on my way to the pet food isle and saw you and I said to myself, WOW..what time do you get off, there is a Mcdonalds here in the store, how about I buy you a cup of coffee?"..
Be nice, come on, you and I are wild at heart...we want an adventure, we want a maiden to rescue, we want a battle to win...Christian men, most of us, act like a neutered thoroughbred...women love that, they love that control, they love to tame...it's out job to ignore that stuff, they want to "twirl' we want to blow something up. It's a complementary thing.
The bible tells us men to be masculine, it tells the girls to be feminine. Women want to be pretty, men want to tell them they are pretty.
So here is what you do, watch that 'glee' episode where Missy breaks a nail dancing...tell your date while you are watching it that next time you expect her to do what you want to do on a date...don't negotiate it, don't even give her a clue what you have in mind, don't spoil it for her...Pick her up and take her horse riding, take her Texas two stepping, you don't even need to know how to dance...if she won't go along with it, whines, argues, take her home...she ain't the one, she wants you to be nice, she wants you neutered, she wants you to twirl".

Masturbation is not that important at this point in time in the world which is at the beginning of tribulation or is heading for it.
What is important is that more and more people are becoming disturbed and dysfunctional. Social interaction is dysfunctional. The heterosexual relationship is dysfunctional. Men and woman are more ambivalent toward each other than before. The fact that Internet dating services are used so much indicates something is not right about both the heterosexual relationship and social life, or friendship networks within which men and women people used to meet don't seem to exist much any more.
The born again condition brought about by the Holy Spirit can nourish better cognitive and emotional life, and better social interaction. The problem is that the salt of Matthew 5: 13 has gone to church where the present day Pharisees have so thoroughly leavened it that the Holy Spirit is not there any more. The "gospel" of the tares is now preached.. But church Christians cannot be wrong because there are so many of them. So the church people are in about the same situation as those outside in the world.

i liked the post half back , I truly did, my only minor disagreement with you is what you say about so many Christians in church, so they must have it right statement...I know you didn't say that word for word, that is just what 'gist" I heard and I disagree...
At best, to me, all the churches have partial truth, some good, some bad..
I am going to a church this weekend with no expectations...its merely to full fill a promise I made to this lovely divorced woman I met through my christian singles group....again, its not that I reject truth when it is there, well I pray that is not the case...
I run a fellowship in my home...that is the focus of my ministry....so flexibility is important to me...as in I have no present axe to grind with Pastor bob, you know...
Thanks again for posting what you posted, very powerful thoughts there in just a few words....

Onanism, and the Scriptural act described in the relevant verse, is indeed coitus-interuptus. Prior to the French inventing the M word, the word used was Onanism, Onanating?
Wasn't aware of the other verse about the harlot. Would use the ancient Greek for it though, olisbos.
As to the question of whether or not it's a sin, discouraged, or simply never addressed, it's not explicitly mentioned anywhere as far as I know, but Jewish sources would to a man, claim it's sinful as per Judaism's heavy emphasis on reproduction. A loosely related story is about how Kabbalists would fashion amulets for slumbering men to protect them from late-night visits from Lilith coming to steal their seed (what we would now call nocturnal emmisions.) So we'd infer with how Judaism encourages reproduction, marriage, etc. that any 'waste' of a man's seed would be extremely discouraged if not outright sinful.
Modern time and knowledge of course has us knowing a few more things about Onanism. Namely, that for men it reduces the chance of prostate cancer. And one might argue it's a lot easier to stay celibate if 'handling' (sorry couldn't resist) your physical needs yourself.
As to coman's claim women don't do it, that's simply not the case. Women are every bit as fond of self-loving as we are. For a scientific and feminist perusal of the subject I'd encourage everyone (men and women) to google Dr. Betty Dodson PhD. She's sorta like a cuter version of Dr. Ruth Westheimer and runs a website with letters fans of her books write in asking questions, many of which deal with women who claim to never have had 'The Big O.' If I had a guru, she'd be it.
