JESUS COMMANDS US TO "SELL OUR POSSESSIONS GIVE TO THE POOR AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURES IN HEAVEN AND **THEN** COME FOLLOW ME!!"
In the old covenant God's commandments were only preached to Jews but in the New Covenant Jesus commands us to preach to every nation in the world teaching them to obey *EVERYTHING* He commanded and everything would also include all of the approximately 400 NT commandments also taught in Acts to Revelation {See 2 Timothy 3-16 to 4:2.}
There were 613 OT commandments and Jesus changed many of them including all of the strict Sabbath commands and all of the commands to stone someone for sinning {Jesus says that he who is without sin should cast the first stone} Jesus also eliminated all the strict Levitical dietary laws declaring that all foods are now clean. And Jesus also commanded us not to make any vows or oaths {Matt 5:33-37}on anything Just let your Yes be yes and your no, no.
Jesus also eliminated the eye for an eye laws and commanded us to always offer up the other cheek and to love {See Matt 5:38-48} our enemies. And of course Jesus eliminated all sacrifices and offerings for sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Jesus also eliminated the earthly rewards for faithful service and commanded us to sell our possessions and give to the poor and get *TREASURES IN HEAVEN* and **THEN** come follow Him.
Luke 12:33,34: Jesus says, Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted....For where your treasure is there your heart:rolleyes: will be also.
Matthew 20:20-24: All these {Commandments} I have kept, the young man said. What do I still lack? Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell tour possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. **THEN** come, follow Me. When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus says, It is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Luke 6:20: Jesus says Blessed are you who are poor:rolleyes:, for yours is the kingdom of God.
2 Corinthians 6:4-10: As servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses, in beatings, imprisonments; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love, in truthful speech and in the power of God; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; dying, and yet we live on; beaten and yet not killed; *POOR*, yet making many rich; *HAVING NOTHING*; and yet possessing everything.
I Timothy 6:5-10: There are men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain....If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
I Timothy 2:9,10: I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
The early saints followed these commands of Jesus and the NT Covenant:
Acts 2:44,45: "*ALL* the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." Acts 4:32: "*ALL* the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had."
Revelation 22:12: Jesus says, "Behold, I am coming soon! My *REWARD* is *WITH ME*, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done!" {When He comes, not now}
2 Corinthians 5:9,10: "So we make it our goal to please Him..For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him {Not NOW} for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad!"
Matthew 16:27: Jesus says, For the Son of Man is going to come in His **FATHER'S GLORY WITH HIS ANGELS**{See Matt 24:30-31;25:31-40}, and **THEN** {Not with earthly rewards now} He will *REWARD* each person according to what he has done."
I Peter 1:13: Therefore, prepare your minds for *ACTION*, and set your hope *FULLY* on the grace to be given *YOU* when Jesus Christ is *REVEALED*.:applause::angel:
2 Timothy 4:7,8: Paul said, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me *ON THAT DAY* {Not NOW}--and not only to me, but to all who have longed for His *APPEARING*.:applause::peace:

You are completely wrong about this........
Jesus said that to ONE PARTICULAR MAN.
It is not a teaching of Christ, it is Jesus dealing with the particular needs of ONE CERTAIN MAN.
THAT MAN, THOUGHT.......he had kept the law of God, the Ten Commandments, perfectly.
Jesus could have told him on the spot that he was bearing false witness by saying that, but JESUS KNEW this man was rich, and would NOT give up His wealth, so Jesus SHOWED the man that he had NOT kept the law perfectly.

Sir James has stated:
"You are completely wrong about this........
Jesus said that to ONE PARTICULAR MAN.
It is not a teaching of Christ, it is Jesus dealing with the particular needs of ONE CERTAIN MAN."
Actually this was the teaching of Jesus for earlier Jesus had commanded in Luke
Luke 12:33,34: Jesus says, Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted....For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.:applause::angel:
This command of Jesus came Before Jesus said to the rich man in Luke 18:21,22 repeated in Matthew 19:20,21 "All these {commandments} I have kept " the young man said. "What do I still lack?" Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, ell your possessions and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow Me." Thus repeating his New Covenant command in Luke 12:33.
And Jesus commanded his disciples in Matthew 28:18-20 Make disciples of all nations..."teaching them to OBEY EVERYTHING I COMMANDED!!"
John 14:23,24: Jesus says, "If anyone loves Me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love Me will not obey My teaching."{See I John 2:3-5}
Luke 19:8,9: Zacchaeus said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half my possessions to the poor:applause:, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back 4 times the amount." Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house."

That's only half of your possesions, not all of them....
Acts 5:1-5 (KJV)
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4WHILES IT REMAINED, WAS IT NOT THINE OWN? AND AFTER IT WAS SOLD, WAS IT NOT IN THINE OWN POWER? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
It is extremely important to let scripture interpret scripture. As Sir James has said, Jesus gave that command specifically to that rich man because it was what was keeping him from following Christ.

Actually Cobbler Zacchaeus also sold half of his possessions and the land of Annanias was not 100% of his possessions
Cobbler like SirJames has again wrongly stated :
As Sir James has said, Jesus gave that command specifically to that rich man because it was what was keeping him from following Christ.
Actually this was the New Covenant teaching of Jesus for earlier Jesus had commanded in Luke
Luke 12:33,34: Jesus says, Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted....For where your treasure is there your heart:rolleyes: will be also.
John 14:23,24: Jesus says, "If anyone loves Me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love Me will not obey My teaching."
See I John 2:3-5: "We know that we have come to know Him {Jesus} *IF* we obey His commands. The man who says I know Him," but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if we obey His word, God's love is truly made complete in him."
Luke 19:8,9: Zacchaeus said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back 4 times the amount." Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house."
Zacchaeus said and did this since he was one:rolleyes: of the called, chosen and faithful.

The Ten Commandments is not, and was never the beginning and end of the laws of God. Of the 613 mitzvah in Judaism, the famous 10 are better thought of as ten sayings or categories of commandments. The very term "the 10 Commandments" occurs no where in Judism or our Tanakh.
"But what about the so-called "Ten Commandments," the words recorded in Exodus 20, the words that the Creator Himself wrote on the two stone tablets that Moses brought down from Mount Sinai (Ex. 31:18), which Moses smashed upon seeing the idolatry of the golden calf (Ex. 32:19)? In the Torah, these words are never referred to as the Ten Commandments. In the Torah, they are called Aseret ha-D'varim (Ex. 34:28, Deut. 4:13 and Deut. 10:4). In rabbinical texts, they are referred to as Aseret ha-Dibrot. The words d'varim and dibrot come from the Hebrew root Dalet-Beit-Reish, meaning word, speak or thing; thus, the phrase is accurately translated as the Ten Sayings, the Ten Statements, the Ten Declarations, the Ten Words or even the Ten Things, but not as the Ten Commandments, which would be Aseret ha-Mitzvot.
The Aseret ha-Dibrot are not understood as individual mitzvot; rather, they are categories or classifications of mitzvot. "

A fascinating article about OT vs NT commandments here, only skimmed it but bookmarked for later reading:
"Does the New Testament Teach All Ten Commandments?"
Did Christ come to do away with or replace the Ten Commandments? Are all Ten Commandments taught and enforced in the New Testament? Did Paul teach them to the Gentiles? What about the book of James?
Most who profess to follow Christ believe that all of the Ten Commandments were abolished by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. They believe that Christ came to do away with those harsh commandments. Some believe He re-instituted some of them. Still others believe that He replaced the Ten Commandments with a new commandment.

Prophetic, there is a big difference between selling half of your possessions and all of your possessions. Also, why did Zacchaeus sell half of his possessions and sell them to the poor? Because he got them through illegal means. He didnt do it out of the generosity of his heart, but because he owed people for defrauding them.
Yes, God does command us to help the poor, even if it means selling out possessions. I am not arguing that we should not help the poor, far from it. What I am arguing is your original statement that we should sell EVERYTHING. Nowhere does the Bible command us to do that.
BTW, do you follow all of Gods commands? Do you wash others feet as Jesus commanded his disciples to do? Jesus commanded his disciples to take nothing but their robs and staffs and go around to Israel and preach the coming of his kingdom, have you done that? There are certain commands that were specific to individuals, and then there are certain commands that are general to everyone.
I think you are twisting scripture a little much.
Matthew 27:5 (KJV)
5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Luke 10:37 (KJV)
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, GO, AND DO THOU LIKEWISE.
