:waving: Ok so i been going over Matthew 24 where Jesus talks about the end times & couldn't help but notice this:
Matthew 24:15 "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)"
To me i thought it was odd that there was a parenthesis in that passage like a big spoiler alert/warning. So i read over a bit of Daniel and came across this.
Daniel 12:11 "And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days."
Most people know this but then right up underneath that passage there's another timeline given.
Daniel 12:12 "Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days."
When i read the 1,335 i wonder exactly how does that fit in with the Tribulation & Great Tribulation period. So i simply subtracted 1,335 from 1290 & got 45 days.
Now from some of the rapture charts i seen they show the first 4 seals during the Tribulation period while the 5th begins during the Great Tribulation period (not sure how accurate that is). What i want to point out is what the bible says about the 6th Seal:
Revelation 6:12 "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;"
Revelation 7:9 "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;" (i believe this refers to the rapture)
Alright now the book of Joel, from what it sounds like to me he is referring to the Great Tribulation period:
Joel 2:31 "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come."
Joel 3:14-15 "Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining."
Alright now look back at Matthew 24:
Matthew 24:29-30 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."
Alright so if you look at the 45 days being after Tribulations, doesn't it fit pretty close to the 6th seal? Or if not what is the 1,335 days referring to? Apart of me wants to say its pinpointing the rapture, the other part isn't sure, because i haven't read the whole bible. Although in my mind it makes sense. :prayingm:
WHAT ARE THE 3 PASSAGES IN GOD'S WORD WHICH SHOW THAT THE GREAT TRIBULATION AND THE REIGN OF 666 WILL LAST EXACTLY 1260 DAYS OR 42 {30-DAY} MONTHS??
**{#1}** Daniel 12:1b,2,7b: There will be a time of distress {The Great Tribulation} such as not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time {The Last Day} your people--*EVERYONE* whose name is found written in the book {Both OT & NT Saints}will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contemptIt will be for a time. times and half a time {Which is also 1260 days as per Rev 12:6,14, or 42 {30-day} months as per Rev 13:5} *ALL* these things will be *COMPLETED.
**{#2}**Rev 13:5,7: The beast will be given a mouth to utter blasphemies and to exercise his authority for 42 {30-day} months {Not 7 years}He will be given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. COMPARE WITH
**{#3}**Dan 7:25: He will speak against the Most High and oppress His saints. The saints will be handed over to him for time {12 months}, times {24 months} and 1/2 a time {6 months}. {Not 7 years}
Events in Revelation that will occur during the 1260-day Tribulation are discussed in Rev 6:1 to 18:24, Events that will occur on the Last Day are recorded in Rev 6:12-17; Rev 11:15-19; Rev 14:14-20; Rev 16:17-21; Rev 19:1-21 & Rev 20:9b-15.The Olivet discourse by Jesus about the End-Times are recorded in Matt 24 & 25, Mark 13 and Luke 21. Events that will occur during the 1260-day Tribulation are recorded in Matt 24:9-28; Mark 13:5-23 and Luke 21:8-24. Events which will occur on the Last Day of the Tribulation including the 2nd Coming of Jesus are recorded in Matt 24:29-31; Matt 25:31-46; Mark 13:24-27, Luke 21:25-28 and 2 Peter 3:10-13. The glorious appearing of Jesus and the resurrection of His saints on the Last day of the Tribulation are mentioned in God's Word about 50 other times such as Titus 2:13: WE wait for the blessed hopethe glorious APPEARING of our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
For example: If the coming of 666 and the 1260-day Great Tribulation starts on June 15th, 2011 then the 2nd coming of Jesus would occur exactly 1260 days later on November 26th, 2014. When the 1260-day Great Tribulation begins God's saints will then know the exact day of the 2nd coming on the Last Day as per: Rev 3:3: Jesus says, But {*IF*} you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. I Thess 5:4: Paul said But YOU BROTHERS {*CHURCH SAINTS*}, are not in darkness so that {*THIS DAY*} should surprise you like a thief.
Now there are some who suggest that the Anti-Christ will exercise his authority for 7 years {Not 42 Months} and that the Great Tribulation will last 7 years {Not 1260 Days or 3 Times}. They have only **ONE** Bible verse {Daniel 9:27which they grossly misinterpret} to support this idea which absolutely contradicts Gods Divine Time Periods as found in Rev 13:5b, Dan 7:25b & Dan 12:7b.
Before quoting Daniel 9:24-27 several things should be noted:
NOTE: About 280 years before the Dan 9:24-27 Prophecy God made this amazing prophecy in Isaiah 44:28: The Lord says of *CYRUS*, He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of JERUSALEM LET IT BE REBUILT! This verse absolutely contradicts the Artaxerxes theory!
NOTE: According to Leviticus 25:8 a Sabbath week or 7 is *7 YEARS and 7 times 7 YEARS or weeks is a Jubilee or 49 years.Hebrews 9:15,26b-28:
NOTE: Hebrews 9:15,26b-28: Christ is the mediator of a NEW COVENANT so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant...But now He has APPEARED once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the SACRIFICE of Himself... so Christ was SACRIFICED ONCE to take away the sins of many people, and He will *APPEAR* a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him when Jesus will bring in Everlasting Righteousness on the Last Day of the Last 7.
Dan 9:24-27: 70 7s {490 years} are decreed for your people to Anoint the Most Holy, TO ATONE FOR WICKEDNESS and to bring in everlasting righteousness... "Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree {By Cyrus-Isa 44:28 above} to rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One comes {Oct 23, AD 29?} there will be 7 plus 62 7's {Which is 69 7's or 483 years}. "After the 7 plus 62 7's {actually 1260 days after on April 3-5 AD 33} the Anointed One will be cut off but not for Himself..... He {The Anointed One} will confirm a COVENANT with many for one 'seven'. In the middle of the 'seven' {After 1260 days} He {The Anointed One; not 666} will put an END to SACRIFICES{For sin}{And then after a long pause} the abomination of Desolation {666} will come {for the 1260 day Great Tribulation} until the decreed end is poured out on him. on the Last day of the last 7 {See Rev 19:20} And so the first half of the last 7 was already completed when Jesus put and END to all sacrifices for sin 1260 days after His Anointing which occurred after 69 7's.
When the Anointed One came 69 7's or 483 years were 100% completed [See Dan 9:25 above} leaving just one 7 in the future; which will be totally used by those who wrongly believe in a future 7-year Tribulation; which means that the Atonement for sin by Jesus about 3 years after His Anointing can not be included in the 70 7's Prophecy. However, God's Word clearly states that 70 7's are decreed ...TO ATONE FOR WICKEDNESS which occurred about 3 years after the end of the 69 7's and therefore the first half of the last 7 has already been completed since there are only 3 times left in the 70 7's. And so the Great Tribulation and the rule of 666 will last exactly 1260 days or 42 months or 3 times which agrees which God's Divine time periods found in Dan 12:1,2,7b; Dan 7:25 & Rev 13:5.
Now many saints believe the reign of 666 and the Great Tribulation are extremely close. I Peter 1:13: Therefore, prepare your minds for ACTION, and set your hope *FULLY* on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is *REVEALED*!
Mark 13:20: Jesus says, If the Lord had not cut short those {Tribulation} days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has shortened them. The first 69 7's were 365-day years {7 years = 2557 days} but the Last 7 has been shortened to 360-day years and two 1260-day periods or 2520 days. And so God has shortened the last 7 of the 70 7's from 2557 days to two 1260-day periods or 2520 days. And God has shortened the Great Tribulation from 3 years or 1278 days to 3 times or 1260 days.
NOTE: The prophecies and time periods found in Daniel 8:1-27 {1150 days or 2300 morning and evening sacrifices} and Daniel 10:11 to 11:45 and Daniel 12:11,12 {1290 & 1335 Days} were all completely fulfilled during the evil reign of Antiochus Epiphanes IV from 172 BC to 164 BC {See Macabees 1:10,44-64; 4:52,53} and have absolutely nothing to do with the time periods and prophecies of the 1260-Day Great Tribulation or reign of 666; and are not mentioned or even implied in Revelation or anywhere in the New Testament. Daniel 12:1-10 was an End-Time Prophecy parenthesis { } which did not include Daniel 11:45 nor Daniel 12:11,12. Almost all of the prophecies in the OT are a parenthesis { } in a text which had nothing to do with the prophecy. The only End-Time verses in Daniel are Daniel 2:31-45; Daniel 7:7-28; Daniel 9:27b and Daniel 12:1-10.
Matthew 24:15 "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)"
SoGen, this is why Jesus say for us not to read the Book of Daniel unless we understand it, because many read it and get thier own revelation that is not of God, so its important that we read with understanding as to what Daniel is talking about as not brings confusion to our minds.
I'm not one into bible prophecy, but I do know and understand it pretty well. I have studied it in seminary, and I'm am getting to understand it much better than I use to. If you read Daniel you must also read Revelation, because they go together, one cannot understand Revelation without first undersatnd understanding the book of Daniel, and you can't just read a few passages and come to an spiritual understanding or conclusions.
It is difficult to expelain in my own words in response to your comments, but I have found for you an article that pretty much explains first what Jesus means by "admination of desolation"... but it is my understanding that the Jews will rebuild the temple and go back to their old ways of rituals making sacrifices in the temple during this time.
Please read this article, and you can go directly to the site and read the whole article so you can gather a much better understanding. It very interesting if you are interested in prophecy, in fact God tells us this si what we should covet of the spiritual gifts, the gift of prophecy.
This is a great site as well with many Bible recourses to offer, and there is a forum to discussions these topics. This is part of the article: Sign of the Great Tribulation, 24:15-25 This portion of the Olivet discourse is crucial to understanding what Christ reveals about the end of the age. The tendency to explain away this section or ignore it constitutes the major difficulty in the interpretation of the Olivet discourse.
In the background is the tendency of liberals to discount prophecy and the practice of some conservatives of not interpreting prophecy literally.
If this prediction means what it says, it is referring to a specific time of great trouble which immediately precedes the second coming of Christ. As such, the prediction of the great tribulation is the sign of the second coming, and those who see the sign will be living in the generation which will see the second coming itself. Accordingly, the interpretation of G. Campbell Morgan, which relates this to the fall of Jerusalem in a.d. 70, and the view of Alfred Plummer, which relates it to the second coming of Christ as if fulfilled in the first century, are unjustified interpretations, if the passage is taken seriously.126
The fact that the book of Revelation, which practically all expositors date after the destruction of Jerusalem, coincides so exactly with this presentation makes it clear that Christ was not talking here about fulfillment in the first century, but prophecy to be related to His actual second coming to the earth in the future.
William Kelly states it concisely, The conclusion is clear and certain: in verse 15 of Matthew 24, our Lord alludes to that part of Daniel which is yet future, not to what was history when He spoke this on the mount of Olives.127 The sign of the future tribulation is identified with what Christ calls the sign of the abomination of desolation (v. 15). Jesus said, When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains (vv. 15-16). The event is so specific that it will be a signal to the Jews living in Judea at the time to flee to the mountains. What did Christ mean by the expression the abomination of desolation? This term is found three times in the book of Daniel (Dan 9:27; 11:31; 12:11). Its definition is found in Daniel 11:31 in the prophecy written by Daniel concerning a Syrian ruler, Antiochus Epiphanes, who reigned over Syria 175-164 B.C., about four hundred years after Daniel.
In his prophecy, Daniel predicted, They shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate (11:31). As this was fulfilled in history, it is comparatively easy to understand what Daniel meant. Antiochus Epiphanes was a great persecutor of the people of Israel, as recorded in the apocryphal books of 1 and 2 Maccabees. In attempting to stamp out the Jewish religion, he murdered thousands of Jews, including women and children, and desecrated the temple of Israel, which precipitated the Maccabean revolt. Antiochus, in attempting to stop the temple sacrifices, offered a sow, an unclean animal, on the altar, to render the Jewish temple abominable to the Jews (cf. 1 Mac 1:48). According to 1 Maccabees 1:57, the abomination of desolation was actually set up, and a statue of a Greek god was installed in the temple. For a time, the sacrifices of the Jews were stopped, and the temple was left desolate.
The action of Antiochus in stopping the sacrifices, desecrating the temple, and setting up an idol in the temple is going to be repeated in the future as the signal of the beginning of the great tribulation. This future abomination is described in Daniel 9:27: He [the prince that shall come] shall confirm the covenant with many [Israel] for one week (literally, one seven, meaning seven years, as practically all commentators, even those who are liberal, agree). The prophecy continues, And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate.
The prediction is that a future prince will do just what Antiochus did in the second century B.C. Further light is cast on this in Daniel 12:11, where it states, And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days, or approximately three-and-a-half-years preceding the second coming of Christ. H. A. Ironside summarizes it, Our Lord tells us definitely here that His second advent is to follow at once upon the close of that time of trouble; so it is evident that this day of trial is yet in the future..
The New Testament, in 2 Thessalonians 2:4, describes the same period, with the ruler setting himself up as God in the temple. Revelation 13:14-15 also records that an image of the ruler will be set up in the temple. These events did not take place in the first century in connection with the destruction of Jerusalem in a.d. 70, and are closely related to the future fulfillment on the second coming of Christ. These predictions have raised questions concerning the meaning of Israels present occupation of the city of Jerusalem. If sacrifices are going to be stopped in a Jewish temple in the future, it requires, first, that a Jewish temple be built, and second, that the sacrifices be reinstituted. This has led to the conclusion that the present possession of Israel of the temple site since 1967 may be a divinely ordered preparation, that in Gods time, the temple will be rebuilt and the sacrifices begun again.
Although this is difficult to understand in view of the fact that the shrine, the Dome of the Rock, is apparently on the site of the ancient temple and hinders any present rebuilting of such a temple, many believe that, nevertheless, such a temple will be rebuilt and these prophecies literally fulfilled. If upon this revival of their sacrificial system such a future temple is suddenly desecrated, it would constitute a sign to the nation of Israel of the coming time of great trouble just preceding the second coming of Christ. The sign is so specific that on the basis of it, Christ advised the children of Israel to flee to the mountain without hesitation when it occurs. His instructions were dramatic, as recorded in Matthew 24:16-20. They were to flee immediately to the mountains of Judea, not return to take clothes or other provisions, and pray that their flight will not be in the winter, when it would be most uncomfortable, or on the Sabbath, when their flight would be noticeable. Especially difficult would be the lot of those with small children. Christ summarizes these predictions in 24:21, For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. The great tribulation, accordingly, is a specific period of time beginning with the abomination of desolation and closing with the second coming of Christ, in the light of Daniels prophecies and confirmed by reference to forty-two months.
In Revelation 11:2 and 13:5, the great tribulation is a specific three-and-a-half-year period leading up to the second coming and should not be confused with a general time of trouble, such as was predicted earlier in Matthew 24:4-14. Jesus also predicted that the period would be shortened (v. 22), literally, terminated or cut off (Gr. ekolobothesan). This does not mean that the period will be less than three-and-a-half years, but that it will be definitely terminated suddenly by the second coming of Christ. That the period would be a time of unprecedented trouble is brought out clearly in Revelation 6-19. One of the various judgments, the fourth seal (6:7-8), predicts a fourth part of the earth perishing.
In Revelation 9:13-21, the sixth trumpet refers to a third part of the worlds population being killed. These are only part of the great catastrophies which fall one after another upon the world and which will end in a great world war (16:12-16). The final judgment just before the second coming, described as the seventh bowl of the wrath of God (vv. 17-21), consists in a great earthquake, which apparently destroys cities of the world, and a hailstorm, with hailstones weighing a talent, or as much as eighty pounds. Putting all these Scriptures together, it indicates that the great tribulation will mark the death of hundreds of millions of people in a comparatively short period of time. Because the great tribulation is unprecedented in history and consists largely in judgments of God on an unbelieving world, many interpreters have come to the conclusion that the church will not have to go through this period.
If the church must endure the great tribulation, the chances of survival are quite remote as it is obvious that many who do turn to Christ in that period perish as martyrs. They are described as a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues (Rev 7:9), referring to both Jews and Gentiles who will die in the great tribulation. The possibility of rapture for the few that survive is not the blessed hope which is held before Christians in the New Testament.129 Our hope is not the horrors of the tribulation, but the blessed expectation of Christs coming for His own (cf. 1 Th 4:13-18). Having introduced the specific sign of the second coming, which is the great tribulation, Jesus then described other details of the period. Just as there have been false Christs throughout the age, so there will be an intensification of this at the end of the age.
Jesus stated, For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Mt 24:24). He went on, in verse 25, to state, Behold, I have told you before. Here, He was refering to His frequent mention of false prophets (cf. Mt 7:15; 15:3-14; 16:6-12; 23:1-36; 24:11). While false Christs and false prophets have always been in evidence, they will be especially prominent at the end of the age in Satans final attempt to turn people from faith in Christ.
