If we had all the historical evidence, and understood it all, would we know Jesus?

:waving:...Welcome to the Forums Asher...Historical Evidence is always a good thing...Jesus didnt leave any personal journals or material items that people know of...unless the famed Shroud of Turin is the Material Evidence...regardless of History about him ( Jesus )...I believe it really doesnt matter much to God the Father about History...I believe its more Important the Personal Relationship we have with Jesus thats Important...of His Majestic History...xo

Well, I think we would know Jesus according to the same limited knowledge as the Jews know Jesus from Old Testament. Otherwaise, without the hisotry that has been recorded for the New Testaent I don't think we would know HIm as we do today in the word.

God has always made Himself known in Jesus in the OT, and Isaiah and other prophets of old made mention of His coming presence, but even this not many Jews or Gentiles knew who He was.

We have no idea what happened between the four hundred plus years between Malachi and Matthew, we can only guess things were still going on as to those who did not looked forward to His coming or interested to know about the Messiah ... and there were some who looked forward to the coming Messiah as God had promised out of curiousity. But I really don't think people today are look forward to His coming or know HIm as many are doing to even read about the Jesus of history ...

I mean look at what's going on now, many still don't know Jesus or believe in Him with all the history we have to go on, even with all the historical writings and other artifacts founds, many people still would care less about knowing or coming to believe in Jesus Christ.

I think it is a serious matter of faith to believe...

I also agree with Jude, to KNOW Jesus is all about having a personal intimate relationship with Him, many people know ABOUT Jesus but do not know HIm even with all the OT and NT history written about hIm...

Okay, by "we" I am assuming you mean True Christians.

And by "all the historical evidence", I am assuming you mean a complete historical record of everything Jesus said and did during His Public Ministry?

We obviously don't need every detail or else God would have provided it.

God's people know Him, and trust in Him, and we already have all the historical information we need in the Gospels and in Acts.

So, I don't think it would change anything if we had every detail of His ministry on Earth.

In Christ,

James

I don't think we would because if we are only going to know about the historical Jesus there is no power of the Holy Spirit to lead us to belief in Jesus which is a completely different thing. I don't think we would know Jesus any more than we can know George Washington by reading about him.

Thanks for the thoughts all, I was hinting that if didn't have the Holy Spirit we wouldn't.

If you have the word of God, you have Jesus, and if you believe the word of God you know the historical Jesus is the same today, for he is still the same doing the same things today that he did as he walked upon the earth.
