Aletheia (ἀλήθεια) is a Greek word variously translated as "unclosedness", "unconcealedness", "disclosure" or "truth". The literal meaning of the word ἀ�λήθεια is "the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident" and it also implies sincerity, as well as factuality or reality.
Jn 17:17 � Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
This word used as truth is repeated thru out the new testament, as the word above. There is no other word that could mean any more to a christian than the word truth and we also know that truth is a person.

You know what Philip, don't allow anyone to try ti intimidate you with the use of Greek or Hebrew words... it makes me laugh when I hear ministers and others always referring to the Greek word or the Hebrew word in a passage, and its meaning which does not change what God meant or is saying in His word.
It just so happens that the New testament was first written in the Greek language for those Jews who spoke the language,and the Old Testament was written in the Hebrew lanague for those who spoke the language, and now the Bible is written in the English lanague for those of us who speak the language, and if you get a regular dictionary and look key words of any passage up, you will find the same results as if you had looked it up in the Greek or Hebrew. The only thing many people don't understand is how to properly use a dictionary and choose the right definition for is being spoke... If you look up a word, you find always find there are three or four diffent ways to use the word in a definition, therefore, one must first consider what is being said and how and where to place the definition to make the sentence or passage be understood...
In God's Word there are key words that stand out in a passage, and even if you look it up in a regular old English dictionary, it still will say the same and next to the word you will find out if it is a Greek (G.) or Latin (L) or whatever orgin of the word. So glad Paul did not have the churches he established to go out and buy Greek dictionaries or Hebrew dictionaries, God's word of truth is plain and simple, there is really no need for such, all this is man's idea of trying to be important in what God has already spoken by looking up the words in the Greek or Hebrew, but it still doesn;t chnage what God has said. Not one person speaks Greek or Hebrew or even undertsand it, if so I will post some passages in the Greek and Hebrew and let's see if the CDFF scholars will be able to translate what is posted:excited::laugh::rolleyes:
Looking up scripture in the Greek or Hebrew is no big deal, if you know what you're doing even in the English, the greek word only give you the definition of the word in the Greek, and look it same word in the english and you will find it still means the same.:laugh:.
Case in point, Halfback posted the defintion of the word congregation in the Greek, so look the defintion up of this same word in the English dictionary and see if it appears to be the same:laugh:
I graduated from seminary with a Masters degree with high honors, and now working on my doctrate degree, and I have YET to purchase a Greek or Hebrew dictionary for my studies, and I am still making high grades... so that should tell you some'um about the need for using Bible lexial tools for Bible Study... meaning Bible Lexicon which is only a dictionary in the Greek or Hebrew. ain't got nothing against the use to educational tools, but never allow them to intimidate you if you don't use them, God has made His word plain and clear...:laugh:
My point is as sowing the word of truth as a seed, for if we believe the word of God is the truth, it would change most everything posted on this forum, instead of selectively acting as portions of the word is truth.
I don't know where the "intimidation" comes in, but you are correct about it.
However, the rest of your post throws out the baby with the bath water; looking up root meanings in the original languages and understanding the culture they were written it is a awesome way to study the Bible. You may not care to do it and I don't judge you for it, however I don't think that is a good enough reason for you to judge others that do.
Two I see continually where this truth is used continually to do just that intimidate others, that is not the motive of this post, this post is to plant a seed as the meaning of the word truth, because of the actions of most are against this very truth. I am extremely amazed as to how many think it is acceptable with the lord.
