Are the Jews the chosen people?

Ethnic Jews, descendants of Abraham, were at one time in ancient history, God's chosen people.

God made a covenant with Abraham, and his descendants were the Jews.

God, expanded his covenant to include people from all over the world, of EVERY ethnic group, at the time Jesus came to Earth.

So, God STILL has ONE chosen people, and they are called "Israel" in the New Testament, and they include people from all over the world, from every ethnic group.

In Christ,

James

Chris, James believes that God has no plan for the Nation of Israel and her people. If you read in the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Zepaniah, etc, you will see this is not so. God is not finished with His people and He does have a plan and promise to restore her back to Himself. He has not cast her off.

Jeremiah 31:35-37 - Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, [and] the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts [is] his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, [then] the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

well 71, there is one verse in the New Testament, and I forget where it is at, but it would seem to imply that right before Christ returns, that the majority of Ethnic Jews alive at that time, would accept the Messiah, and be saved.

There is also something of a movement of Ethnic Jewish believers right now.

I worshiped with a big Messianic Jewish church in Ukraine. it was about 300 people and almost all of them were ethnic Jews.

But, as far as Ethnic Jews today, who reject Jesus, they are NOT God's chosen people.

There is ONE name under Heaven that people can be saved by and that is Jesus.

In Christ,

James

100% absolutely Yes.

However the real question is....

Chosen for what?

I gotta so argue that.

Isaiah 43:1,8,10,25 - But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, [even] I, [am] he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Zechariah 12:10 - And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.

Zechariah 13:1 - In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

Romans 11:26-27 - And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this [is] my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Isaiah 59:20-21 - And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. As for me, this [is] my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that [is] upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

Isaiah 45:17,25 - [But] Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Now unless you believe this is speaking of the Church and you believe she is referred to as Jacob, the House of David, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, or the harlot, God has a covenant with Israel. This covenant includes blotting out their transgression of disbelief. It is a promise to take away her sin and uncleanness, and a promise to never remember her sins. God loves Israel. Though she lives the harlot, God says in Hosea 2 that she will be betrothed to Him for ever, in righteousness and faithfulness.

Good verse, Chris. :glow:

For thou [art] an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that [are] upon the earth.

No doubt Israel has messed up. And she doesn't seem to learn her lessons very well. But it doesn't remove the promises God has declared for her.
