Free choice = the opportunity to choose or perform an action of your choice with no consequences.

Do we really have free choice? If we go against the bible we go to hell. That would suggest that we do not have free choice as our actions are monitored and choosing the wrong action will result in punishment!!!

How do you figure? We go to hell because of our sins and rejection of Jesus Christ, right? Are people forced into rejecting Christ? Were you forced into believing in Him?

Welcome to the forums, Chris. :glow:

Thank you for the welcome :)

Some people may feel forced because they are scared of the consequences of not believeing etc.

If I held a gun to someones head and I said 'you have free choice to do what you want but if you don't do what I want you to do I will pull the trigger'. is that free choice?

Chris... You have the wrong mentality for this off the bat.

If you love someone, doing things for them is a breeze, because you want to be with them all the time, right?

Being a christian is a bit like that. The Lord says "If you love me, you will obey my commandments."

When Jesus was asked the most important commandments he said "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment. And the second..Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

Love people and love God, and believe Christ is the son of God.

Those are pretty minimal things, right?

You should already love people, you should already know who Christ is to be a christian, you should love God!

It's about love, and it always will be, some people totally don't get that.

Everyday we are faced with choices, some of which can lead to undesirable consequences, if we so choose. A person holding a gun to one's head and giving an ultimatum still allows one to make a decision. Remember the horrible incident at Columbine High School? Cassie Bernall was asked if she believed in God. She said, "yes", and then was shot and killed. She chose to confess her belief even though it cost her her life here on earth. Would she have died otherwise? Probably so. But the point is, she wasn't forced to confess Christ. She freely admitted it.

Chris, you are correct.

Our choice is not free; whatever we choose will cost us something.

However....

We are free to choose as we wish.

You can see it all depends on the meaning one pours into the phrase "Free Choice"

In other words : The freedom to choose as we wish comes with a price.

"You chose the cross with every breath, the perfect life, the perfect death; You chose the cross." - nobody said choosing the right thing was going to be easy - why would it in a world where wrong is so widespread?
