*GROUND*...simple but not easy question!
Posted : 22 May, 2011 01:02 PM

You all know the parable in Matthew 13:3-23 about the seed that fell on the path (hard ground), the rocky ground, the thorny ground, and the good ground.

Hopefully we all agree the seed is the Gospel, and the ground represents different kinds of people.

So here is the simple however not easy question:

'Who or What determines the condition of the ground before the seed is sown on it?'

I think the condition of the ground depends how much watering it's had (from God and us), the presence of rocks and stones (experiences that harden the heart), weeds (other beliefs and false teachings) and whether the seed ever becomes planted (distractions & procrastination) before it gets snatched or washed away.

Some of the above we influence directly, others are influenced indirectly by Christians all over. Some things only God can sort out (like the depth of the soil), other things Satan works at to make the seed unfruitful in that particular garden.

I'm with you...lets put some wheels on this cart!

The type of ground (or a person's heart) is determined by a combination of 3 things ; (Imho)

1) Environment

2) Genetics

3) Type of spirit a person is born with

As every farmer knows; the ground can be modified by outside forces working on it. And I must admit I have never heard of ground modifying itself, unless you count 'crying out for rain'.

Two, I'm curious as to how you believe genetics would play a role in whether one's heart is fertile or what type of ground it has for sowing seed.

Genetically speaking people are born predisposed with certain personality traits as stubborness, substance abuse and addictive personalities just to name a few which might negatively or positively affect how a person might choose.

I have noticed some people are just ripe for the Gospel while others either view it with distain or are clueless what your talking about.

The Ground is the heart of man or his spirit, and you will find that scriptures tell us what makes the difference in whether a heart is good soil or not but the primary responsibility is with man.

The other part of the equation is the ignorance in the body of Christ of Satan's ability to hinder man from coming to the truth, any strong evangelistic ministry will prove this out, because you will always find a prayer team that is at work before the ministry of the word even month's before certain meetings.

Matthew 13:11-17

It is difficult to escape the notion of election here.

Even the ability to understand God's message,

let alone respond to it, is the gift of God.

The ears that hear are blessed by God.

In verses 20-21 Jesus says that the rocky ground is someone who might be admiring Jesus, or other Christians, or some part of the gospel, such as escaping Hell, and they might even make a profession of faith, but they were NOT born again by the Spirit of God, so Christianity was just a phase or a fad for them.

They were never born again by the Holy Spirit, so there was no real life in them in the first place, it just appeared that way for a short time.

In Christ,

James

The parable of the sower totally exposes the notion of election.

What the parable of the sower does teach us, faith and how it works in the heart of man that walks in the light of the word and it is an example of bible faith.

These words where spoken by Jesus under the old covenant, and this is exactly how old testament saints walked with God, the principles laid out in this teaching.

One has a ear to hear, in other words it is up to you if you hear and believe.

Two man believes what he hears

Three out of a pure heart man is a doer of the word.

The heart of man is the ground or soil.

James, no one denies election---- many deny unconditional election.
