Came across a very interesting question: Will God help those who don't act?

You may be praying praying praying for a job, healing, relationship, change in habits, lose/gain weight, but if you don't go out of your way to look for jobs/do interviews, get Medical intervention, go to places to socialize with others, get rid of the junk...how will things change?

What do you think?

Philippa, I think we should do what we can to accomplish our goals. But to think GOd won't answer a prayer because we don't do certain things is like saying, God helps those who help themselves. It isn't in The Word. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ God Bless Ya and Welcome to the forum!

I personally believe that God isn't going to do something for me that I'm already capable of doing for myself, and that faith without works can be a kind of hypocrisy. Please don't misunderstand me: I don't believe salvation is based on works (at least, not our works!) and I'm not arguing for that, or that God doesn't answer prayer unless you've kind of 'earned' it. However I do believe the bit in James where it says that if you pray for a brother to be warm and well-fed but then send them away naked and hungry then, well, your prayer didn't really mean much to you even, did it!??:dunce:

The word listen is a Hebrew idiom, when you see it in scripture it means to hear and go do, God always gives instructions in the action format. People are always blessed in their doing, so after all that He may or He may not, He dropped Manna from Heaven and their Job was to collect it. But for the most case, if you are doing, He is Blessing

I have a question for you:) Sometimes we know we can do certain things, but we don't want to do them. We may need some mind changing. We may need some support. Is that sinning?

Well being tempted isn't a sin (Jesus was tempted remember?) if that's close enough to what your asking. Disobedience, though, is.

Mind you, remember that Moses wasn't enthusiastic about his appointment either, and although God got angry with him (for putting up barriers rather than being willing to trust Him and try), He still used him to incredible ends. Even the apostle Paul struggled with this so don't feel bad, simply ask Jesus "Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief."

Forget about the sin thing! Jesus has forgiven you of all your sins and has adopted you into the family of God as a child who calls God "Abba" which means 'Daddy'.

This means God deals with you as the greatest most ultimate Father would; loving you, supporting you, helping you to grow rightly and as every good loving Father does; applies discipline, just as much or little that is needed!

This is why we "Practice" Christianity ; because we are no where near perfect at it!

Two there is understanding to what you said in the 1st ch of John 1thru 9, and yes it is sin and sin bringeth death, even to a christian.

Death being initially broken fellowship with the father.
