What was the Sin in the garden of Eden? Obviously it was not eating a apple from a forbidden tree, or was it? The tree was named "the tree of knowledge of good and evil"; a name like that is more than just a arbitrary name. The tree bore fruit and if it was as other trees in the garden it had seed in the fruit, meaning it could reproduce itself and it seemed what it produced was the knowledge of good and evil which results in death for humans.

The real question is : Was this a literal tree or a metaphor for something? I suppose it could of been a real tree and the Sin of Adam and Eve were just plain old disobedience, therefore experiencing the knowledge of good and evil. However I find it interesting the first thing they did was to cover their sexual parts and the first thing they did after getting kicked out of the garden was to have children.

This got me pondering; 'What kind of Sin could a person commit if they were naked in a garden with no neighbors and no possessions? The only one I could think of was 'perversion'; to use something for other than its orginal intention.

Perhaps the spiritual component is much more important than the physical. It seems that the knowledge of good and evil is deadly to humans and that is why we are called to follow the Spirit instead of worrying about what is good and what is evil.

I like 2sparrows what you said.

Of course it was not an apple b ut a fruit.

Sin was disobedience to God. If you do not obey in faith, you disobey and this is a sin.

That's why disbelief is one of the main sins and those who are unbelieving will NEVER get to the Kingdom of God (Jesus said in in the Revelation 21: 8).

By the way Jesus is listing other people who will never get to the Kingdom of Heaven. They are those who commit these sins and do not obey God to stop doing them and start living a godly life:

Revelation 21

All Things Made New

1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John,[a] saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me,[b] Write, for these words are true and faithful.

6 And He said to me, It is done![c] I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things,[d] and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving,[e] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

I find it interesting that all 3 ( Adam, Eve , the serpent) were cursed a little differently. (Genesis 3:14) ...... The serpent was cursed above all cattle and every beast of the field. " upon thy belly shalt go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life". (his body) ~~~~~~(Genesis 3:16) The woman would have multiplied sorrow in conception and childbirth. (her body). Also her husband would Rule Over Her! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Genesis 3:17) For Adam, the Ground was cursed (not his body). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Verse ~15 talks about the woman's 'seed' and the serpent's 'seed'. God would put enmity between the serpent and the woman and her seed and the serpent's seed. Anybody care to share a good definition for "enmity"?

You'd think after all the days Adam was meant to be working the fields, raising up crops and tending to all the physical things required for living (because things cease to grow) he sure must've felt like his body was cursed. :P

I believe it is very simple:

It was an actual tree

Knowledge is based on words that will either produce

Life or Death

Faith or fear

Satan is the one that wanted them to eat of the tree then and it has never changed, he is telling the same lie today.

Fear is a spiritual force for the kingdom of Darkness

Faith is the spiritual force for the kingdom of God.

@ Michael, the definition of enmity is: The state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something (such as a family feud).

Satan is the serpent of old. The old testament often talks of Satan as that.

The seed of woman was the first prophcey of Christ.

You see the seed was of woman not man.

Virgin birth- the first time it was revealed in that way.

What do you all think of this?

Very interesting observation about the seed of the Woman and not the Man, I don't know if the Scripture intended to be exclusive of the Man, but if it did it is a sure prophecy of the virgin birth!
