Who is God Jesus?
Posted : 13 May, 2011 09:14 AM
Dear Brothers,
I want to ask a question. Do we want to know the truth or are we happy to stay with what we have been taught? Is it true that Jesus is God or not? If we study the Bible it is clear that He is.
I want also to reply to these statements.
First part: GOD IS NOT A MAN
Does the Bible say God has many sons or one son?
The Bible says that God wanted to have many sons and daughters. But there is only one Son of God, Jesus. The Bible shows this clearly: Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called the children of God 1 John3:1
In the Old Testament it says Proverbs 30:4 Who has ascended up into heaven or descended.
Who has gathered the winds in His fists who has bound the water in a garment
who has established all the ends of the earth what is his name and what is his Sons name if you can tell?
The above passage was taken from the Old Testament. Clearly the person that is spoken here is of God the Son.
Also in Psalm 45 King David as a prophet foresaw the Son of God. Listen carefully to what he says:
Psalm 45:6 Your throne O God is forever and ever A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom You love righteousness and hate wickedness THEREFORE GOD,YOUR GOD has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your COMPANIONS
In other words this man who had companions was called God and He also referred to His Father as God. So we have God the Son and God the Father. They talk to each other as God. So when Jesus was on earth He spoke to God the father as God. It didnt change the fact that He also was God. He adored Him or worshipped Him this didnt detract from the fact that He was God Himself. As the Father adored the Son.
Do the Christians believe in 3 Gods??? No there is only One God.
In Genesis 1:1 it says in the beginning God (the word is plural) He created (singular) the heavens and the earth.
In other words God is only ONE but He has 3 parts. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We see this again in Genesis 1:26 Then God said Let us make man in our image after our likeness
Here God speaks of Himself in the plural again.
Again in Deuteronomy 6:4 it says: Hear O Israel the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE
Here the word is a composite one. The same word is used when man and woman became ONE flesh. Or All Israel rose up as ONE man. The same ONE is a unity of ONE. THERE is a different word used in the original for one when one is indivisible. Its a different word. Never used for God.
Throughout the Bible it speaks of ONE God as a composite one.
Going back to the text Numbers 23:19. The FULL verse says GOD is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent, Has He said and will He not do?
In other words the person who wrote this has taken it out of context. The verse is comparing God to man and it is saying God is not like a man who would lie.
Hosea 11:9:
For I am God, and not man,
The Holy One in your midst;
And I will not come with terror.
Again God is drawing a comparison between Himself and Man.
I just want to also point out that both these Scriptures were taken from the Old Testament before God became man which obviously happened in the New Testament.
But the Bible prophesied in the Old Testament of the coming of a baby boy that would be God in the flesh. See Jesusiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, Prince of Peace.
Also in Micah 5:2 It says But you Bethlehem Ephratha though you are little amongst the thousands of Judah yet out of you shall come forth to me the one to be ruler in Israel whose goings forth are from everlasting (i.e. this child will have no beginning and so be GOD in the flesh) ONLY GOD HAS NO BEGINNING.
Acts 17:31 He will judge the world in righteousness through a man whom He has appointed
This man is God in the flesh, Jesus. We know that only God will judge the world.
SECOND POINT: GOD IS NOT A SON OF MAN
This point is taken out of context. The full passage reads: Numbers 23:19 God is not a man that He should lie nor the son of man that He should repent
Again the whole point of this passage is to compare God to man. God is saying I am not like you in the respect that I lie or change my mind. He was not saying that He was not a man at this point. The truth is He was going to be born into the world over 1000 years later.
JESUS AS THE SON OF MAN AND JESUS DENIED HE WAS GOD.
Jesus referred to Himself as the son of man. Many times.
He was referring to the prophesy about Himself in Daniel 7:13
Here it says:
I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages SHOULD SERVE HIM.
HIS DOMINION (in other words He will not DIE) is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.
Again we see here the Ancient of Days (God the Father) and the One whose Kingdom (Son of MAN) will never be destroyed who will RULE FOREVER, in other words God the Son.
Although the term Son of man has been used in the Scripture to speak of others when Jesus was referring to Himself as the son of man they knew this passage and that He was referring to Himself as the ONE who would be given an everlasting Kingdom.
See also Mark 14 :61-62
When Jesus was on trial for his life. The high priest said to Him. Are you the Messiah the Son of the Blessed? Jesus said I AM (the name of God). And you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven then the high priest tore his clothes and said what need we any further witnesses You have heard the blasphemy
Note the high priest didnt say are you the Messiah and you call yourself the son of the blessed. NO IN THOSE DAYS THE JEWISH PEOPLE BELIEVED THAT THE MESSIAH WOULD BE GOD OR GOD THE SON. When Jesus said I AM this was the name God called Himself in the Old Testament. Many times the religious accused Him of blasphemy because he used the name I AM.
He said in Johns gospel before Abraham was I AM
The Jews new this was the name of God Himself.
Also in John 10:30 it says:
Jesus said I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Jesus answered them: many good works have I showed you from my Father for which of those do you stone me?
The Jews answered Him for a good work we stone thee not but for BLASPHEMY and because thou being a man MAKES YOURSELF GOD.
Jesus when He said I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE knew EXACTLY how His hearers would interpret what HE said. He made it clear to them that HE knew He was GOD the Son.
In Luke 18:19 There is a rich young man who comes to Jesus and asks HIM what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life. Jesus said to him: Why do you call me good? No one is good but ONE that is GOD
He later told him he lacked one thing, go sell whatever you have and give to the poor and you shall have treasure in heaven and come follow Me.
Jesus did not rebuke him for calling Him God, He was saying you call me good this term is used for God. The young man had other gods namely his possessions and he had recognized Jesus as God he would have followed Him. Jesus never said I am not God. What He was saying if you realized who you were talking to you would see that I am more than just a GOOD MASTER the young man just called him flippantly good master. In other words He was saying the opposite He was saying do you really realize who you are talking to (I am God.)But the rich young ruler in this passage and in the Mathew 19:17 one which is the same didnt follow Jesus has his god was his possessions.
When someone, namely Thomas, after the resurrection actually did call Jesus God He never rebuked Him. He accepted what Thomas said. See John 20:24-25 Thomas doubted that Jesus had risen from the dead. When He saw Him after the resurrection he said to Him: My Lord and my God. WHAT WAS JESUS reply to this: Jesus said to him- Thomas because you have seen me you believe Blessed are those that have not seen me and have believed
JESUS NEVER REBUKED HIM FOR CALLING HIM GOD.
Thats enough for now. I will get back to you about the other points. Just to say believing in Jesus is the most wonderful thing in the whole world. You know all the bad things you have ever done are forgiven. YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO HEAVEN. HE gives you a peace inside and you fell LOVED by God.
Its one thing to talk about these things but until you experience the love of God for yourself, you are in a dark world of unbelief.
I will get back to you about the other points.
El-Amin
