How in the world do you get God to open up the windows of heaven?

Malachi 3, I believe speaks of it. I've spoken to the Lord about this, but I'm still waiting for His answer. I'm praying on it, etc., and just waiting for an answer. In the meantime, I thought I'd ask my brothers and sisters here.

Okay, let's say you're tithing and have been for a long time as well as giving offerings, but you haven't seen that overflowing blessing that God speaks of. You know the one where He promises to pour out and you won't be able to contain it. What do you do to make that happen? I pray I don't sound childish or unintelligible, but I know no other way to ask this question...lol I love the Lord first for who He is. I'm not after His stuff, but I have bills and I have issues and needs and wants just like everybody else. Plus, He wants to provide for us.

I love the Lord first for who He is. I'm not after His stuff, but I have bills and I have issues and needs and wants just like everybody else. Plus, He wants to provide for us. He is Jehovah Jireh. I want everything God promises! So, long story short, how can you get what God speaks of in Malachi 3?

Holyghostgirl, hope you don't mind the repost, this is a great question that deserves discussion. Some may shy away from it cause to them it would be like admitting the 'Emperor has no clothes'.

First lets look at context: This was written to a specific group of Jews at a particular time in history who were accused of robbing God. So to apply this Scripture to us, it must be applied in principle. However how this principle is applied in the New Covenant is different that the Old Covenant which was in force when this Scripture was written.

Under the Old Covenant if you did good you were blessed, if you did evil you were cursed...simple. Now under the New Covenant of Grace where the righteous requirements of the Law have already been met in Jesus it does not appear so simple on the surface. I is kinda like 'You have been given eternal life without having to work for it, what more do you want?' Even Paul says he went hungry and found the secret was to be content with little or much.

With all that said, the principle is repeated in the New Testament more than once, but in a different way. In the Old Covenant you could give to get, however in the New Covenant you give with a cheerful heart out of Love and Thanksgiving and the real Blessings are stored in heaven awaiting your arrival. God will take care of you regardless, however what He thinks you need and what you think you need may differ!

(A deep sigh) I am greatly moved by this topic. I struggle because sometimes I view my life as being buried by a 200 lb. weight tipped opposite a 5 lb. bag of Idaho potatoes. I just feel I have hit the floor with a 'thud' and the scale is not tipped in my favor. Not only would I desire some balance, but a 'lightning of my load' would be terrific! I forget oh-too-easily that the shower of blessings may not be what I want to happen for me, but what Father has prevented from happening to me.

Like Ridley says... it could be that the blessings are God protecting you. It does not say, nor do I think it means, that is HAS to be monetary blessings. There are many many ways God can bless His children that have nothing to do with money or bills or making ends meet.

And as always - as TwoSparrows pointed out - it is important to keep the words in their original context.

Malachi 3:7 "from the days of your fathers you have turned aside from MY laws and did not guard them. Turn back to ME,and I shall turn back to you" said YHWH of hosts. "But you said, "In what shall we turn back"

8 "Would a man rob ELOHIM? Yet you are robbing ME"

So they were not obeying the laws of the FATHER and HE was pleading with them to turn back to HIM as HE is now doing with many of us,,but that aside

YAHSHUA said don't let one hand know what the other is doing,,,if we give to the poor, widowed, homeless and the orphan then we are giving to HIM,,if we feed we are feeding HIM and so on

we give cause the FATHER wants us to give to the poor but that does not mean to get poor doing it,,if you are lead to give all that you have then by all means sell everything you own and give to the poor

you have understand too that you can give to people directly you don't have to give to a church and let them figure it out,,you can give directly to someone who is in need,,,you know what go and help someone who has the same problems you do,,try that put your trust in that you are going to help someone else with the same thing that bothers you and i bet you will see a great lesson if nothing else

i think that the FATHER does want to take care of us but our version of taking care of might be different then HIS,,you should always give because it is the right thing to do

you could be building in a place where man does not see,,,and to have all this treasure waiting for you when you get there will be a big surprise

i am not saying i know your trouble but you also have to remember that this is not your best life now,,this is not the last stop this is just the beginning so stack your treasure in Heaven

i pray dear sweet child that all your troubles are taken care of and that you never worry,,trust in our FATHER cause HE is trustworthy ,,praise the MIGHTY ELOHIM YHWH and HIS SON YAHSHUA MESSIAH

Thanks for re-posting this. I agree with Lisa and godslamb. I have felt like the windows of heaven opened and poured out blessings on numerous occasions.( that I could hardly contain)! Two of the times were when two of my grown children gave their hearts to Christ. It definitely doesn't always have to be material things.

I have always thought this verse was a real eye opener, like it is the next step we don't see cause we focus on getting our needs met. Especially in today's modern society with celebrities and all a person can really understand this verse:

Ecclesiastes 6:2. " "a man to whom Bid gives wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God does not give him the power to enjoy them..."

This verse always makes me think; 'what has God already given me that I am not enjoying'....lol, but true.

I know it isn't always material things when the windows open, but sometimes it is. A few years back, I had given a family in need every penny I had. Gave 'em everthing I had in my bank account and all but 10.00 in my wallet (needed that for gas to get to work). ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two days later, things started happening. I got a raise at work, 2 friends who owed me money (for over a year) payed me back, my light bill dropped by about 50 bucks, the phone company sent my deposit back(200.00) cause there were no late payments for a year, my dad sent me a check for 500.00 (a first) ! All this happened within a week! An out of town family member of the family I'd given the money to, called and said he wanted to reimburse me half of what I'd given them. Talk about a grown man crying!! God showed me that week just how much He will indeed meet every need we have. And I don't think the windows have been shut since! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That is a great story Chevy! Yes that is just like God!

I think the key is not giving to 'get'

Here is another true story:

In the book of Acts Peter and John meet a crippled begger and say 'gold and silver we have none, but what we have we give to you, get up and walk.

Well there was this fellow Thomas that the Pope was showing the riches of the Vatican treasury and the Pope remarked "We can't say gold and silver we have none" to which Thomas replied "And neither can you say 'get up and walk' "

Ouch!
