Peter had a better gift of knowing what was happening and explaining it and harvesting a crop of new believers. Looking at Paul's writings, it is obvious that not all Christians should be speaking in tongues. They should pray to receive the greater gifts. I think one of the greatest gifts is of those who no matter where they go they wind up helping someone accept Christ. Here is something that most folks don't know. Among the Hindu followers, there is speaking in tongues. Years ago, I met a woman (1st date) and I knew by her church that speaking in tongues was a big item. I told her that I had a problem with the teaching people how to speak in tongues. Doesn't the Holy Spirit know how to just give it? She replied that she really didn't teach them but instead let them watch and listen so that they got the idea. Funny thing is; it doesn't sound like a language. There is too much rhyming and too much repeating of words. The worst case was a pastor saying, "To drink,......to drink, to drink, to drink. To drink!" I have even run across folks who claim that God can't hear prayers that are not in tongues. No body gets saved I guess. OKAY! Well...cuz Satan can hear yer words to...when a person is prayin in the Spirit...its a private one on one with the Almighty...a person prayin in the Spirit does not always know what they are prayin for...it is of groanins an utterances that only GOD understands... Have ya never been woke up suddenly an for no apparant reason ? ya jus know ya gota pray...not known why or for who...ya jus know ya gota do it cuz GOD is callin ya to...an it comes out of the Holy Spirit with in ya ? Ifin not...then ya got no understandin or experiance bout what bein discussed here...I There are Tonques of Lanuage...an Tongues unknown ta Man...this means...only GOD understands these utterances...an as to the Why ? you ask...cuz GOD's WORD has said so....xo Post Reply

The vast majority of us have never been near him. He is most likely where he can cause the most opposition to God. We don't need to pray outloud, God knows our thoughts. BIG QUESTION: I put forth a prayer to ask the LORD if the tongues that are spoken are from Him. If you are afraid to pray that, you may be resisting the Holy Spirit since testing spirits is recommended by John. Post Reply

Where does it say that in the Good Book ? an we arnt referin ta Prayin in Public here...so please dont quote that scripture... Stay away from him yes, but hide our prayers. Really??? What verse tells us to about that? And you can't be taking scriptures out of context and smashing in your presupposition to get your doctrine. You will be wrong every time. It is a far stretch to use Romans 8 to back that up. Remember context, context, context always rules the day when interpreting scriptures. Post Reply

As to checking out if something is really from God: Here in California there was a preacher who people were very impressed by. He knew the Bible and could explain it and really preach. He and a bunch of his followers moved to South America. We now have the term: "DRANK THE KOOL-AID." Post Reply

After meeting the LORD, he went to Damascus and waited until a man named Ananias came and laid hands on him. Read the chapter. Saul regained his sight was baptized. The Holy Spirit changed him and he started preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. Somehow he missed out on speaking in tongues after receiving the Holy Spirit. Post Reply
