We cannot save ourselves. Jesus is the only one who make us righteous, but if we think that we're just going to waltz into heaven after we're "saved", then I think we need to read the bible a bit more. Do you believe that someone who is not sorry for or not turning from their sin will make it to heaven? If suicide is a sin, then anyone that knows it is a sin and consciously does it anyway will not be in heaven. It's giving up, it's losing faith, it's denying Christ, etc. If a converted person is sick and not in control of themselves, then I do believe God will have mercy on them if they commit suicide, but if someone is knowingly and willingly sinning and they do not repent, then they are not going to heaven. I do not believe in "once saved, always saved" and I think that's what we're getting into here. Major theological differences.
