purpose of salvation

To say that God the Father has purposed the salvation of all mankind, that God the Son died with the express intention of saving the whole human race, and that God the Holy Spirit is now seeking to win the world to Christ; when, as a matter of common observation, it is apparent that the great majority of our fellow-men are dying in sin, and passing into a hopeless eternity: is to say that God the Father is disappointed, that God the Son is dissatisfied, and that God the Holy Spirit is defeated.

I don't get how you are saying that God elects people but there is also free will. Free will is not taught in scripture. Instead scripture teaches that man makes choices according to his nature.

I believe the verse you are referring to is 2 Peter 3:9, not Romans 15...and it is speaking of God's patience to allow all of the elect to come to Him. In the context pay attention to "us" "you" and "they". Those who God is not willing to let perish are those whom He has chosen. I believe God's will is accomplished.."11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,"

"It is not based on any plan or willingness of man but this does not leave out the will of man for believing Gods plan. Can you see the difference?"

Actually no I cannot. You cannot say that salvation doesn't involve the will of man and then turn right around and say it does.

Do you ever change your mind when the scriptures are at odds with your beliefs?

I have heard many arguments from scripture and the thing that changes my mind is the Spirit of God who illuminates truth.

I trust this in your life as well.

Yea but God speaks through His word. If you are waiting for some neat little voice or feeling to make you change your mind it will not come. The scriptures also tell us to study the scriptures. What for if the Spirit just provides us with all the little nuggets we need? I mean let's be honest. You really don't have a defense against the scriptures that have been provided.

Think what you want. What I am saying that I never feel the need to defend my self. Mant people can make a good argument like you. What you miss is the Spirit of God that dwells in every believer to lead us in all truth. That still small voice that I have learned to hear and trust.

You trust logic.

No I trust God. I just happen to believe God is the author of logic and that His word is pretty clear on the matter. In other words, if God's word says it's one way, then the opposite of that way cannot be true. That's logic and there is nothing wrong with logic.

It's not about making a good argument. It's about what are the scriptures teaching :)
