Acts and the Gift of the Holy Spirit:

In Jo 20:21 Jesus breathed on his disciples and said to receive the Holy Spirit, after that occasion he instructed to go into the City and wait.

Acts Ch 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

If you will notice in all of the Gospels It was said of Jesus that he would Baptize believers with the Holy Spirit and Fire.

He had said to them in verse four of ch 1 wait for the promise of the father, which you have heard of me, we know he was talking of the Holy Spirit, or the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

Verse 8 ,notice he mentions it is the Holy Spirit, and he tell's them why, to receive power, that they may be a witness unto him.

The number in the upper room was 120, and they where all in one accord in prayer.

In Acts: 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This is not the new birth they where already born again, but it is as it was in Jesus ministry an additional impartation of the Holy Spirit for power to be a witness unto Jesus.

The Spirit came upon not within

He came on all

As all received the Gift of the Holy spirit.

All spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:7 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Peter tells us what the promise of the father is, The Holy Spirit, it is the will of the father the Holy Spirit is to be poured out on all .

Now many want to argue this is the Gift of tongues, this is not the Gift of tongues it is refereed to as the Gift of The holy Spirit and when they received him all spoke in other tongues, as they where filled.

When a believe receives the Holy Spirit as in acts ch 2:4, you can pray in tongues any time you want to.

We will go to acts 10:44 and in this context we see this happening to the gentile believers and notice what the apostles say about it.

Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

The Holy Spirit again Fell on all of them.

They said this was the Gift of the Holy Spirit

Because they heard them speak with tongues.

In explaining the occasion to the Jewish brethren Peter Said:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Again we see baptized with the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is again refereed to as the gift

It would be interesting to hear those that oppose the word of God give a book report.

Would the boys turn out to be girls?

According to this theology, Christ did not receive the Holy Spirit even though the Bible clearly says He did. He did not speak in tongues when the Holy Spirit descended UPON Him and stayed.

So, either the Bible lies or this theory is a false teaching.

If you will Study it out the day of Pentecost had not yet come, and I am sure you did not the Spirit came upon him not in him.

Why the bible answer's why the reason is the same as in Acts.

Hello,

All you need to do is believe.

Father we thank you for the promise of your Spirit, we thankful for being faithful to your word.

Paul, also did not speak in tongues when he received the Holy Spirit, he did speak 6 languages as he attests in 1Cor. 14.

So, let me get this straight so I can show how absurd this is.

First you say all Christians have the Spirit living in them, and when you are baptized in the Spirit, He comes upon you.

Now, since I showed the Spirit came upon Jesus, you say it is the other way around.

So, which is it? Commit yourself if you dare.

Beleving God is no dare Leon, is it maybe you are confused?

You said I said, no Leon I never claimed to write the word of God I just hear it and believe it as the the lord Jesus told us to.

What I have always said is in John 20:22 was the first time any where born again, I have never said otherwise.

The bible teaches that those that believe on the Lord Jesus are saved, I realized you say that is not true but that is not my problem.

Any that want to know will see the distinction of the Spirit within and then The Spirit upon.

Jesus told them to wait on the promise of the father Acts 1:4, why because the promise had not yet been given.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Leon would endeavor to teach others a person is Saved when they receive the Holy Spirit instead of when they receive Jesus.

Ac 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto Johns baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

Who had they not received since they believed?

Section II. A man may have great and eminent GIFTS, yes, spiritual giftsand yet be but almost a Christian. The gift of prayer is a spiritual gift. Now this a man may haveand yet be but almost a Christianfor the gift of prayer is one thing; the grace of prayer is another. The gift of preaching and prophesying is a spiritual gift; now this a man may haveand yet be but almost a Christian. Judas was a great preacher; so were those who came to Christand said, "Lord, Lord, we have prophesied in your nameand in your name have cast out devils," etc. You must know that it is not giftsbut grace, which makes a Christian! For,

1. Gifts are from a common work of the Spirit. Now a man may partake of all the common gifts of the Spiritand yet be a reprobate. They are called common, because they are indifferently dispensed by the Spirit to those who are believersand to those who are not. Those who have grace have gifts; and those who have no grace, may have the same gifts; for the Spirit works in both. Nay, in this sense he who has no grace, may be under a greater work of the Spirit as to gifts, than he who has most grace. A graceless professor may have greater gifts than the most holy believer! He may out-pray, and out-preach, and out-do them! But true believers, in sincerity an integrity, out-go the mere professor.

2. Gifts are for the use and good of others, they are given for the profiting and edifying of others. So says the apostle, "A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church." Now a man may edify another by his giftsand yet be unedified himself; he may be profitable to anotherand yet unprofitable to himself.

PJ,

You can insult me all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that you are a false prophet. To declare a false doctrine and declare it is of God is being a false prophet, and you are the greatest one I have ever seen. People like you are the reason the bible warns that not everyone should be a teacher.

You still did not give a reason for Jesus not speaking in tongues, the Spirit came UPON Him. There is one Holy Spirit. None of the Apostles spoke in tongues in John. Just because Pentecost had not happened did not mean that the Spirit was not here. The Spirit of the Lord came upon people all throughout the Bible to empower them for a task. None of them spoke in tongues.

May the Lord have mercy on your soul.
