What Jesus did to satan in hell
Posted : 19 May, 2010 01:04 PM

My bible tells me that when Jesus died he went to hell and took the keys of death back. Thus is what he died on the cross for, Right?????? I know this to be true. In the old testament before grace satan had the keys to death. Now Jesus has them. he saves us by salvation. Thus jesus is the King of this world, (god)

For me to say any different I believe would call god a liar. This I can not and will not do. Jesus took it all back. Just read all 4 accounts of the crucfixion in the gospel or the first few chapters in acts, Jesus is the redeemer. dennis

I put this in another post. there seems to be a misunderstanding as to what I wrote????? Why I do not know? Jesus who died on the cross took the keys of death away from satan sets us free from death. This is the basis of the faith. How can one be so blind as to disagree. We are saved by the death on the cross.

Our sins are wiped away by jesus.

I'm pretty sure it just means "the grave" or something...if He actually went to "hell" and confronted Satan I think there would be more support and the bible would have been clear about it. Nobody else thinks this "cave of torture under the earth ruled by a goat-Satan with a pitchfork" thing is a pagan belief?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluto_%28mythology%29

Do a Google image search for "St. Peter in chains". The supposed statue of "St. Peter" is a "recommissioned" pagan statue of the roman god of the underworld, "Pluto"...it has horns. Christmas...Easter...Idol worship...immortal souls..."hell"...even "sunday" in my opinion...but no paganism crept into christian beliefs at all...noo...of course not...the "founding fathers" did it for so long it must be the truth...:ribbit:...sorry...sarcasm...

Some pointers- the phrase," In the name of Jesus" gives us dominion over satan phillup John here on earth.

That statement alone stands on its own. it makes jesus rule supreme here on earth.

A statement was made earlier also by somebody else.

This will clarify that. lazerus and the rich man both died.

The rich man was looking across hell and saw Lazerus on the side of paradise and asked for water. If jesus went down and sent those free in paradise and then expand hell's boundries how can anyone be confused here. Hell and paradise were side by side at the earths core.

Ever here the story of someone dieing before they got saved. They always say the could see themselves going down into the earth heading to hell. It got hotter as they go down further.

No misunderstanding here.

My question is to you how are you confused because you obviously do not understand, where is Jesus know he is not on the earth.

You are implying I do not understand, I understand clearly and it is not as you proclaim.

Authority on the earth, is on the earth still today

Hello folks, mind if I jump in?

Please forgive me if some of the points below have already been mentioned. I wrote this a few years back after studying this teaching.

____________

____________

Did Jesus Preach in Hell?

There has been considerable misunderstanding of three areas of Scripture. Some people interpret them to say that Christ actually went to hell. They teach that while Christ was there that He preached to lost souls who were there in hell. This is very far from what the text actually says.

_________

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

The word hell is used dozens of times throughout the Bible when it simply meant grave. At least thats the case with the King James version which uses the word hell more than any other translation.

The Greek word for hell, in this verse, is Hades. If you notice it is the same word Hades also translated as grave in 1Cor. 15:55. Christ was simply in the grave, thats all. Yet, some will take this passage and add it to the ones below to form a doctrine that teaches something not quite so simple.

__________

1Pet. 4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

This verse tells us that the gospel "was"(past tense) preached to those who "are"(present tense) dead. What meaning does this verse hold?.....Peter did not imply that the gospel was then being preached to the souls of the dead. He said the gospel "was preached" to those who "are [now] dead." The preaching was done while they were still alive, and they will be judged on the basis of how they lived "according to men in the flesh," or while they were still alive.

Peter is undoubtedly talking about those who he referenced being preached to eight verses prior,(3:19,20) because he refers to their living again "according to God [as God lives] in the spirit." In other words, they will receive immortality in the resurrection and will have a life that measures with the life of God.

_________

1Pet.3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

Let' s look at it closely now and get the real message of these verses. It says, "Christ also hath once suffered for sins ... that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached."

First of all, notice how Christ preached to those spirits in prison. He did it by the Spirit, and that word is capitalized in your Bible. So, whatever preaching Christ did during this period of time, He did it through or by the Holy Spirit.

With that in view, let's ask this: "When was the preaching done?" The answer is plainly given in v. 20: "when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing." So the preaching was actually done while the ark was being built, during the preaching of Noah to the pre-flood world. We even see Peter tell us plainly that Noah was a preacher of righteousness, (2Pe 2:5).

Now, one more question: "To whom was the preaching done?" The text says here "unto the spirits in prison." Throughout the Bible we find this terminology used in describing those who are bound in the prison house of sin. David prayed, "Bring my soul out of prison." (Psa. 142:7). Isaiah and Christ describe below the same thing. While filled with the Spirit they preached to those they described as bound, captive and in prison. It is simply the same thing that happened to Noah.

Isa 61:1 The SPIRIT OF THE LORD GOD IS UPON ME; because the Lord hat anointed me TO PREACH GOOD TIDINGS unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty TO THE CAPTIVES, and the opening of the PRISON to [them that are] BOUND;

Luke 4:18 The SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, because he hath anointed me TO PREACH THE GOSPEL to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, TO PREACH DELIVERANCE TO THE CAPTIVES and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,....

Paul spoke of his experience in these words, "bringing me into captivity to the law of sin.", (Rom.7:23). What Peter is telling us here is simply that Christ, through the Holy Spirit, was present while Noah preached; Christ was there through the Holy Spirit to speak conviction to their hearts and appeal to them to come into the ark.

The three questions are clearly answered in the text itself: (1) that He preached by the Holy Spirit, (2) He did it while the ark was preparing, and (3) He did it to the spirits in prison, or to those individuals whose sinful lives were bound in the prison house of sin.

There is also no indication in the passages above; of anyone being tormented, in torment, brimstone, burning, heat, fire, etc All the images we associate with a burning place of judgment are missing. The one word in Acts 2:31, which also means grave is the only thing that actually is holding this teaching together. One word should not be something people build a doctrine on, and it definitely shouldnt be taught as Gospel.

With all do respect Dennis.

In one place it says he went to hell.

In another place it says he has the keys to hell.

Nowhere in those passages does it mention him taking anything from Satan or that Satan ever had the keys. Where in those passages do you see Satan mentioned at all?

Nowhere in the Bible does God call earth hell. Just another heresy for those of you that could be fooled by some people's cult beliefs.

God loves you and would not and did not create this universe for you to live on hell. Concepts like these are human constructs of good intentions being co-opted by the devil.

Please seek the truth that only the Bible can show you.

Ahh, finally a reasonable opinion here. Jesus overcame death and its sting on the cross. satan(no capital s for me) is the Prince of the Powers of the air, which is probably why did not call the day that he created the air(Day 2), good.

Immediately upon creation of the earth's atmosphere, satan and his "thugs" rushed into it and God was not glad that He had to let this happen but stuck to His big picture plan.

Please, people, compare all that is written in these forum to the real choice. Many a cult walk these dangerous halls spreading their lies. Be especially careful of a particular one who worships a prophetess and belongs to the cult of SDA. She is a nice enough sounding woman and very attractive but she only knows lies and will deceive in these forums where she thinks she is free to propagate her cultic opinions.

Google SDA cult and see the truth about Ellen White and her evil beliefs that are deceiving a multitude.

Mona, if you are reading this, I do not hate you. I actually would love to love you as a sister in Christ. Please, you owe it to your eternal life to read things outside your church and sincerely KNOW the truth of the Bible not what a late to the party woman with demons in her soul.

I never mean to attack you but I am sometimes overly passionate about the truth, because God's truth is the only one that can set you free.
