Why do people usethe word 'PRODIGAL' for the younger son in Luke 15 verses 11- 32

Hello everyone:

In the parable recorded by Luke chapter 15 verses 11-32, the word 'PRODIGAL' is not mentioned, not once.

Since the word is not mentioned, not even once, then why is that title laid upon the younger son.

The younger son spent a few dollars, yet he knew what type of man his father was,yet the older brother wasted his life because he never knew what type of man his father was, even though he spent more with his father than his younger brother.

The younger brother only wasted money, which can be replaced, but the older brother wasted his life, and time under the watchful eye of his father.

The younger brother had a relationship with his father, but the older brother never had a real relationship with his father.

Here we have two sons under the same roof with the same father. The younger knew his father, what he was like, his character, attitude and personality, but the older son had no idea who his father was,or what his father was like.

So then, which son wasted that which is more valueable, the younger son who wasted a few dollars, or the older son who wasted his relationship with his dad.

I don’t think anyone on the forum has excluded any of the 3 main characters in the parable.
