Silly People Think Christianity Taught the Earth was Flat

Lots of silly people (atheists) teach and write textbooks claiming that “the church” or that all Christianity believed in a flat earth. But this false theory lacks historic evidence. It’s true a few pockets of Christians believed in a flat earth just like gullible Christians today believe evolution old earth doctrine and death before the sin of Adam, but that doesn’t prove that all Christians were equally deceived.

KJVO, I’ve never accused you of being “empirical.” I think you’re confusing terms. Empirical has to do with validation based on observation or experience rather than theory.
I would classify you in the subjective category largely controlled by feelings about observable things
I’m afraid even Prophetic has you beat in the “empirical” department on this thread.
It’s taking way to many posts for you to qualify the reliability of your feelings about what you think is true.

I don't mind looking silly for Yahuwah. He looked silly for me on the tree/cross. Before that He was mocked and spit on , the hairs on His face ripped out as Isaiah states.
Isaiah 50:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
Prove me wrong David..If you can prove me wrong then I stand corrected! Please, all I ask is that you look into it and take is seriously!

Isaiah Says that the Earth is **CIRCULAR**
Isaiah was inspired by God to say in Isaiah 40:21-22:
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the **CIRCLE OF THE EARTH**, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy!!
So Isaiah clearly calls the Earth a “circle.” This clearly shows that he had a round idea of the Earth. This is interesting for a couple of reasons:
1.First of all, he says God sits above the **CIRCLE OF THE EARTH**. Circle can mean “spherical, round, etc.” So he is clearly calling it something **ROUND**.
2.Secondly, this blows away the arguments by the skeptics that the Prophets thought the Earth has “corners.” Hint: A circle doesn’t have a corner. Therefore, why would a man well versed in the scriptures of God call the Earth a circle if he believed it to be a flat cornered piece of land? He wouldn’t! So obviously he believed the **EARTH WAS CIRCULAR** in nature.
Isaiah oddly uses the term **CIRCLE**, and it is odd that anyone would describe the earth that way unless they actually supposed it was **CIRCULAR** in nature.
There have been thousands of pictures of the earth from outer space and every picture shows a **CIRCULAR ROUND EARTH**!!
Every intelligent person knows that you travel **WEST** by plane from New York City to New Delhi India with a stop over in Tokyo and you can **ALSO** travel **EAST** by plane from New York City to New Delhi India with a stop over in Tel Aviv Israel.! This of course would be impossible if the earth was flat and only possible if the **EARTH WAS CIRCULAR**!!
The brain dead **FLAT EARTHERS** have no answer to the above!!!!

I am going to get to you Parrot about your flight path. Take a chill pill..I am going to have some fun with Dave first.
Ok Dave...
I got my college Commie text books out...
You did say the Communists took over the school system ?
Your knowledge of "conspiracy theories" is increasing! Make sure it doesn't surpass your knowledge of the KJV...Opps.... You said that to me because I use the KJV. I meant NASB for you!
A woman has a memory like an elephant.
I wonder if you can tell me Dave, since I got my glasses on which PAGES to rip out of my Commie athiest text books....Maybe those are figurative too ? I want to be fair and discount some figurative scientific data like you want to discount parts of genesis? Where do you draw the lines on science ?
So ...are you on the side of atheist science Dave, that throws out the Bible, claims that we have an ever expanding universe with a whole solar system of planets , uses cracker jack calculations as to how many light years away the milky way is? I may be mistaken but it seems to me that EARTH is the only planet! Since, like atheist scientist claim that we are just a little speck in the ever expanding universe , with other planets and galaxies , do you think Our Creator , Y'shua is searching around trying to figure out where He put us?
Maybe that was why it took Him so long to make it to Earth in human flesh? Maybe he was riding the milky way on a borrowed bicycle from some alien being or got lost in a black hole or a worm hole before landing happenstance on this tiny little speck called Earth that HE created! I am so hard I sound like Tigger... Whoo hoo hoo!!
I need some depends. I am about to wet myself sitting here. Thanks for the medicine Dave! Laughter is the best kind!

I think people can create controversy out of anything. People using modern day English interpretations and then running with them to create an argument. The Bible is there to teach us about our relationship with the Creator, not so we can draw schematics of the earth. Also, it's good to keep in mind that the Bible sometimes uses figures of speech that are very much relevant to the times certain scriptures were written. One example of this was Jesus speaking about a "mote" in an eye in comparison to someone having a "beam" in theirs. If I wanted to create controversy I could run around fussing that people can supposedly have wood planks stuffed up in their eyeballs. Of course it makes more sense to read something in context.
Here's a simple word study and maybe you can give a response to it.
Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
At face value, someone reading in English might think it meant a "flat" circle instead of a sphere, but if you simply study the usage in the original manuscripts, you get something quite different. You can check this for yourself.
From Strong's Concordance - reference H2329. The usage is referenced two other times in scripture.
- It's described as "compassed", which means N,S,E,W, as well as enclosed space within a perimeter.
Job 22 translates it as "circuit", when referring to clouds, which indicate depth (unless you're suggesting the clouds are flat)
Job 22:14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
The other usage in scripture is where it actually says "compass" and specifically mentions depth.
Prov 8:27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
So if the other two in the original manuscripts are read to indicate depth, why should I read an English translation and assume "flat?"
