Choose whom you will serve...

Joshua 24:15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

***** here it was a clear CHOICE for Israelites to make...serve God or serve the gods...

Numbers 21:8And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

***** an example of Christ in the OT which Jesus referred to in the NT. the Israelites disobeyed God, God sent poisonous serpents to punish them. The only way for them to live was to CHOOSE to look at the fiery serpent lifted up on the pole. The serpent was there for ALL of them, but if they did not have the faith that God would save them when they looked upon it and CHOSE not to look, they DIED.

John 3:14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

The verse clearly states that "as many as received Him" not as many as He received.

To paraphrase--if I receive Him, He gives me the power/ability to become His child

It doesn't say: if He receives me, He gives me the power to become His child.

God has already stated throughout the Bible that if I receive Him, He will receive me - if I ask Him (call on His name) He will save me.

Sorry PJ. It's just not there buddy. I know you really want to see it, but it's not. There is freedom in that though, knowing that your salvation is all a work of Christ and none of yourself.

Correction I do see it because I first have a willing hear to hear, and then I see it, but I have known it for years.

The truth never changes, when it is obeyed by the heart.

The truth will never be known that try to approach god thru the intellect, the mind and the flesh always war against the truth of God's word and the spirit of man (Heart).

" It doesn't say: if He receives me, He gives me the power to become His child."

Not sure where you are getting this as I didn't say it. All the verse says is that those who receive Him are those who He give power to become His children. It does not say that man has the ability on His own to receive God. Again, this is adding to the text. I'm not sure how to make it any more plain.

" Correction I do see it because I first have a willing hear to hear, and then I see it, but I have known it for years."

Okay then you should be able to show me in the verse where is says man has the ability. We also know that the 10 commandments were supposed to be followed but man didn't have the ability....same concept...not difficult. You are blinded by how you want the text to read instead of just reading what it says.

But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

We all have the right to Choose God.

:applause:

What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by Faith; but Isreal, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it Not by Faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone. As it is Written:

See, I lay in Zion a stone that cause men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who Trusts in Him will never be put to shame.

Romans 9:30-33 niv

It's nice to say we all have the right to choose. It's another thing to show it from scripture.

To clarify...I believe men can choose whatever they want. However men will always choose self over God.

I know lots of people who choose God over themselves. Missionaries who leave family, safety, and successful careers to go to third world countries. Men who left successful careers to go into the ministry. Women who give up their careers to become the supportive wives of ministers or missionaries.

Esther chose to go into the king to protect her people.

Rahab chose to help the Israelite spies I Jericho,

David chose to fight Goliath.

Samson in the end chose to lose his life while taking out a large portion of the enemy.

Jonah chose to disobey God, spent a few days in a whale, then chose to follow God's direction.

Daniel who faced the lion's den for praying.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who faced the fiery furnace.

Paul, Silas, Peter, John, James, Bartholomew, etc who faced prison, stonings, persecution, and death for spreading the gospel.

Um pointng to believers who choose to act for God on a day to day basis is irrelevant. We are talking about salvation here. Let's try to keep this on topic.

My post was on topic...

Rehab was not a Christian when she chose to hide the spies. It took a further act of faith for her to show her loyalty by putting a red ribbon at her place. Everyone inside was spared...

I know many people who are Christians that do not follow the will of God...they have not grown in their Christian walk and have suffered through trials because of their lack of action.

Jonah comes to mind...

Samson comes to mind...

David comes to mind...

Solomon comes to mind....

Hezekiah comes to mind...

Abraham comes to mind...

Adam and Eve come to mind...

Noah comes to mind...

"My post was on topic..."

To clarify....mine was a response to this..."I know lots of people who choose God over themselves. Missionaries who leave family, safety, and successful careers to go to third world countries. Men who left successful careers to go into the ministry. Women who give up their careers to become the supportive wives of ministers or missionaries."

This is certainly not on topic because we are not speaking of a believer choosing to do something for God. We are speaking of salvation. Where in any of your posts have you shown that man has the ability in and of himself to choose God? Just give me one instance.
