Every denomination has been taught to view the gift of tongues differently. I'm curious as to what everyone believes in regards to the gift of Tongues.

What would one hope to reveal by speaking gibberish in a crowd that all speak the same language? A SIGN FROM GOD!!! Any one who feared God would never speak in tongues unless God himself told him to, then he would fall on his face and tremble for fear of the Lord!

A generation of vipers seeks for a sign, dont hold your breath. The fact is we dont need a sign when we have the real deal right in front of us, literally in our very hands.

Tongues is a gift or tool given to one to spread the gospel to another that speaks a different language. And thus IS a sign of God, and for one to think it could be used for chit chat is blaspheme and makes me sick.

I love your humbleness and assertiveness PJ, this is not a light issue to be incorrect on.

It is not about tongues, it is about the holy ghost, but I would exhort those not walking in this topic to be silent, and not speak of things they know not of.

PJ, just to clarify what you said, are you saying that you can only have the Holy Spirit in your life if you speak in tongues? Or that speaking in tongues shows you have the Holy Spirit? And for either question, how so?

Two by the way, when you speak in tongues you do not control your tongue, nor do you want to, but those that pray in tongues continually and stay filled with the holy ghost, will not have such a problem taming their tongue.

I could never say Jesus died for the elect only.

james, thank you for your insight here. In 1986 when I came out of the lutheren church and was saved at a pentacostal church I was introduced to tongues. Our pastor did ask some people to leave who abused the gift of tongues. They mistaught it as if you did not have it you were not saved.

We will always find out that gifts are abused.

Study it out for yourself and decide my brother.

Dennis

PS. It is your decsion to pursue it. Free choice.

It is a choice Dennis that is for sure, but we as christians are told to walk in the light as he is in the light, we are told to do theses sayings of Jesus, Jesus also said that we would deceive or delude ourselves if we where not doers of the word, and hearers only.

Bottom line the word of God was written to men and women that had been taught the holy spirit was to be received, in addition to receiving Jesus, Satan has worked real hard at distorting this truth with many lies.

The number one lie is that, acts 2:4 is the gift of tongues, and not all have the gift of tongues.

The topic is the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

Hey PJ! :waving:

I've noticed that a couple of people have asked you direct questions but I haven't seen your direct answers.

Do you believe speaking in tongues is evidence of having received the Holy Spirit?

Do you believe that if one cannot speak in tongues, they have not received the Holy Spirit?

Do you believe if one has not received the Holy Spirit they are not saved?

Let your Yes mean Yes and No mean No.

I apologize if this reads poorly, but sometimes I have a hard time understanding what you write; my apologies. I just asked the question in Yes and No format to make things a little easier for both of us. :)

With love,

T
