I just want to say

We have had some lately that wanted to say the lord is the source is the source of afflictions, suffering , sickness, as if they where Gifts.

My bible teaches me that is the work of the God of this world, the one that used to be my god, but no longer is he my god.

I have tasted of the lord and he is the giver of every good and perfect gift:

For death he gave me life

For confusion he gave me peace

For darkness he gave me light

For selfishness he gave me love

For lack he gave me abundance

For sickness he gave health

For the greatest gift of all, he gave me himself

For all the work of Satan he gave me victory

For he so loved me, that he gave me his first begotten son.

I am grateful for all his goodness

Praise the lord.

John chapters 15 & 16 ~ " Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servvant is greater than his master'. If they persecuted me they will persecute you also..... in fact a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God."

Phillipjohn, this is just one of the many instances where you contradict the PLAIN words of scripture.

People SHOW you where God SAYS that He wounds, and kills, and causes people to suffer, INCLUDING His elect, and God even gives Paul a reason why, and you ignore it, and contradict it.

You do this on a regular basis, and you need to repent of it.

In Christ,

James

Hebrews chapter 11 ~ "Others were tortured....Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others where chained and put in prison. They were stoned, they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated.... they wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith,....."

Two I never said one time we wouldn't be persecuted, the post is about those that claim the lord did it.

James their are several points you made and that you make according your calvinist programming, that does not make me in error.

Christians do not have a sinful nature either, and I should believe you in lieu of the word.

James it is back on you until you can explain the law of sowing and reaping, and the law of faith, you have nothing to say to me.

I am not to repent for your unbelief, that would not be faith.

James shared:

"People SHOW you where God SAYS that He wounds, and kills, and causes people to suffer, INCLUDING His elect,...."

--------------------------------------------------

James I do not see that in Scripture nor am I saying that. What I do see in Scripture is : We are in the middle of a battle, behind enemy lines, there are going to be scrapes and bruises, and eventually death, but the battle has been won!

PJ,

What I am saying is the Old Covenant was very clear: do good and be blessed, do bad and be punished. (Kinda goes back to the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but I digress) We are now under a new Covenant that pretty clearly says we are not to love this life, instead we are to look forward to the next life, and in the mean time, trust God.

Deu 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

1Sa 2:6-8 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

Do you see it now, Twosparrows?

Sorry James, I still don't see the the part that says "INCLUDING His elect"

This topic as described in the verses you posted is about the Sovereignty of God. This thread is about the Nature of God. The question isn't if God can or does do this things, the question is does He arbitrarily do these things to those who are called by His name. I think we both agree He doesn't. We might even agree that difficult times may come for those who are His and who are walking in His will. As to who does what, God, Satan, the world or our dumb choices, that initiates suffering it is not always clear. What should be clear is that if we are His, it is for the best, however the best may not be realized this side of eternity.
