Quiznos View Profile History	Why do people usethe word 'PRODIGAL' for the younger son in Luke 15 verses 11- 32 Posted : 26 Sep, 2022 04:13 PM Hello everyone: In the parable recorded by Luke chapter 15 verses 11-32, the word 'PRODIGAL' is not mentioned,not once. Since the word is not mentioned, not even once, then why is that title laid upon the younger son. The younger son spent a few dollars, yet he knew what type of man his father was,yet the older brother wasted his life because he never knew what type of man his father was, even though he spent more with his father than his younger brother. The younger brother only wasted money, which can be replaced, but the older brother wasted his life, and time under the watchful eye of his father. The younger brother had a relationship with his father, but the older brother never had a real relationship with his father. Here we have two sons under the same roof with the same father. The younger knew his father,what he was like, his character, attitude and personality, but the older son had no idea who his father was,or what his father was like. So then, which son wasted that which is more valueable, the younger son who wasted a few dollars, or the older son who wasted his relationship with his dad. Post Reply

Most of society would agree the younger son was the despicable rebel. Most in society would agree the older brother was the responsible son. In fact, that’s what the Pharisees, who thought they were better and smarter than everyone else, thought too. The older son actually represented the unrepentant Pharisees. Sorry you missed that. But Jesus made it clear the son who recognized his sin and humbled himself and repented was the son who did the right thing. If the parable could be named something other than the prodigal son then how about the Loving Father‼️‼️ Post Reply

The Holy Spirit does not need anyones help, to open the understanding of those reading His Word. The subject titles may do more harm than good. Post Reply

I think headings serve a purpose as long as people understand which words are inspired by God and which aren’t—that’s the main thing Post Reply

When will people just depend upon the Holy Spirit to give understanding,maybe people do not believe what He says about the Holy Spirit. John chapters 14 & 16. Even the chapter, verses and punctuation are of men, as these are not in the original manuscripts. Post Reply
