Cattleman, I respectfully disagree with you as well, because I have studied the Greek and seen the beauty of the gospel, and how the Bible is consistent throughout its text. I am no scholar, but it's the most grace-centered and God-centered and leaves the Bible with no contradictions.

This knowledge has even caused me to defend the Scriptures against atheists, who made the claim that the Bible was full of fallacies.

It's not about winning arguments though, you let the text define itself. You can't simply remove or alter the Scriptures that you don't like, that go in accordance with predestination. I can discuss them here if you have any questions.

We're all Christian in the end, but God's Word stands alone and has one meaning. This, I cannot recant. Check out James White.

In reply to Daniel's question, "should all Christians speak in tongues" - YES - and that is EXACTLY what it says in Mark 16:17 says, not I.

"In my name" is of course in the name of the Lord, that is, in His authority only, not man's.

Peace.

Dear kdhny11,

I am afraid that this verse in gift of tongue as mentioned in Mark 16:17 should not be seen as a gift to every Christian. There are several reasons:

1. if all have the gift of tongue then they will also have all the other gifts mentioned in Mark 16:17-18 as it is said that these signs will follow those who believe. We did not see this. Not everyone prayed upon is healed. Christians still die from drinking poison. So this verse is not to be interpret as you do.

2. It explicitly written, in My name, that's mean this thing only happens when God give you the power. Since God's gift (I am mentioning spiritual gifts) is unique to everyone, as mentioned in many instances as in 1 Corinthians, etc. Shall God give all the gifts to everyone? And the meaning of the verse "in My name" is explained by Ezekiel 13.

3. According to you, all Christians should speak in tongues. Ok , we see that many Christians even in Charismatic churches do not speak in tongue when they started to believe in Christ (they only started after baptism of the Holy Spirit). Are you saying that all this people do not actually believe in Christ? Are you saying that Holy Spirit do not enter them once they believe? This is contrary to what Ephesians 1:13 said.

4. Why are we given the Holy Spirit? Jesus pointed it out clearly, it is to teach us and to remember His teachings (John 14:26). And remember what Jesus said about asking for signs?

5. How can speaking in tongue edifies (to usher you out from sin) you? Does it point out your sin? So you can see that tongue speaking is for the unbelievers as stated in 1 Corinthians. This again is shown in the form of examples in Acts.

6. How about John the Baptist, who is filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mothers womb. No miracle, as far as I know have been recorded from him .
