AND it came to pass, when men began to miltiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives of all they chose.( Genesis 6:1&2) Verse 4 says daughters of men bore children to the sons of God. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been asked by more than one person to bring this up for discussion again. The last one was cut short.~~~~~~ My questions are: Who are the sons of God? fallen angels? How do we know it's impossible for fallen angels to procreate with human beings? If it were possible, maybe it has something to do with so much mental illness in the world? ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your Opinion?
Boy, do I have a ton of questions regarding this topic, still.
First, I believe there is more support for the "sons of God" being angels than there is for them to be from some godly line. Mostly because of their use in the OT, specifically when they present themselves before God along with satan, and also when the Flood occurred only Noah and his family were spared. If the sons of God were a godly people, it seems there would have been at least some descendants from that line spared along with Noah.
My biggest problem still, is that I don't find anything to support angels being sexual and with the ability to procreate. Because of the names given to those angels mentioned in Scripture, I believe they are masculine in that sense, but are they sexual beings? Hebrews 1:14 calls angels "ministering spirits". I do believe they are more spiritual than physical in that sense, and while they have had encounters with humans and they can take on the form of man, etc, this still does not prove they are sexual beings, thus my problem with them procreating. Satan was created as were the rest of the angels, and he too is a 'spirit'. Does anyone believe or think that he can become human enough [genitalia and all] to father children? Would God have even created him or the other angels that way, especially knowing that one day they would be thrown to the earth from heaven?
Is it possible that the fallen angels as spirits, took control of humans, as in they possessed them, instead of these angels becoming human enough to procreate? There are accounts of possession in the NT, and it appears that those [demonic] spirits need a place to house themselves, even in pigs if necessary. Also, in Genesis 6, God speaks of the wickedness of 'man' and He said in verse 7, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them." Nothing is mentioned of angels. If it were angels that had sexual relations with women resulting in offspring, why did He just focus on man in that verse and not include those angels that were part of His creation?
Going back to what Jesus said in Luke 24:39... " Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."... If angels are spirits, and Scripture does support that they are, then they do not have flesh or bones as Jesus said. So again, I have a problem with them becoming as human as we are when it comes to procreation and the anatomy and physiology it takes to do so.
Another question I have... if angels were becoming human enough to produce demonic/human offspring, are they still doing it today? After all, "the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:", so no doubt he and his demons are still roaming. And how would one know whether they were of this line of offspring? Could you say that Jesus died for them as well?
As far as the passage in Matthew 22:30 goes, we all know there is neither marriage or giving of marriage in heaven, and that we "are as the angels of God in heaven." Do we just assume that "as the angels of God in heaven" is limited to no marriage in heaven or is there more? Angels are eternal beings. in the resurrection we become eternal beings, etc. As interesting as this topic is, there are so many areas in which I find it so difficult to comprehend.
Saved after reading your post twice I would say you really only have one question in many different forms : Are Angels or can they become "sexual beings"?
Let's explore some of your questions: About Jesus saying to the disciples he was not a spirit; In the context the word spirit would mean 'ghost'. Jesus was saying it was really him in flesh and bone, not his ghost, especially since he appeared out of nowhere in a locked room.
As for spirit procreating flesh there is the virgin birth of Jesus when the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary.
I find it interesting that Adam and Eve after the fall covered their sexual parts, to me it is a hint of the type of sin committed in the garden of Eden, it seems to have be some sort of sexual sin.
Scripture says 'the Sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive and took any of them for wives.' To be honest if they found them attractive they didn't just look at them. And it does say they had offspring; 'heros of old, great men of renown'. I also notice the Scripture hints that the offspring were always male. Both of these points strongly imply this was not normal human reproduction, but rather some sort of hybrid.
The bottom line is we don't know much about Angels and Scripture is fairly quiet about them, we do not know the scent of their abilities or power. However after all of Scripture is weighed on the topic I would say there is more to suggest they can procreate, but to do so they must leave "their home" and "come down" or "fall" and become human.
As I said before; I don't know, I am merely exploring the topic, however I noticed when I get past the "sex" part alot of Scripture makes sense that didn't before.
I don't think there's anyway to get around it. Fallen angels CAN procreate with humans. Genesis 6:4 .........when the sons of God (fallen angels) came in unto the daughters of men, AND THEY BARE CHILDREN TO THEM....... Another question I would have is "Did the daughters of men realized who they were bearing children to or were they deceived into thinking the fallen angels were 'normal men'? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of Saved's questions was, Are they still doing it today? I would think, It's possible. (Luke 17:26&27) Same things will be going on in the days of the Son of man that went on in the days of Noah before the flood came.
i watched a Discovery film and they said that there are many African people raped and abused by angels in the night in Africa. That's why people are using magic things to protect themselves...Women report that they wake up in the morning in sperm on their back...
Who knows may be it is true. Many be only fallen angesl dare to commit even sexual sins with people even today...
Chevy, my take on Jude 1:6 is it was just the fallen angels that took wives and had children before the flood. As for Angels who fall away: I think it would be kinda odd to say everyone of them fell away at the same time, idk maybe so, or maybe some still fall away today? Or maybe it was just the ones that rebelled in the war in heaven.
Some day this will all make sense to us...to bad we wont care then...lol.
Btw, I think their children, (the Nephilim) were the ones who built the 3 great pyramids, not the smaller ones; I think those were copies of the great pyramids bulit by man; they are smaller and the construction noteably not as advanced.
I also find it interesting that archaeologists cannot explain the hugh jump in ancient technology in such a short period of time. Extra Biblical texts say when the Angels fell they gave "secrets" and "knowledge" to men, but heaven laughed and said these angels shared wothless secrets because they had not learned the real secrets yet.
Bahira, thanks, I'll check out youtube; see if I can find it.
Men in parts of Tanzania's main city, Dar es Salaam, are living in fear of a night-time sex attacker.
A BBC correspondent says the attacks are being blamed by some on a demon called "Popo Bawa" meaning winged bat.
Some men are staying awake or sleeping in groups outside their homes. Others are smearing themselves with pig's oil, believing this repels attacks.
Reports of the demon's existence have been common for many years in Zanzibar, where locals claim it originated.
The BBC's John Ngahyoma in Dar es Salaam says not many people actually believe that the demon exists and there have been no sightings.
But Mbaruku Ibrahim, who hails from Zanzibar, says the story of the demon is common there and people in his village on Pemba island sleep beside a huge fire outside their houses whenever it is said to appear.
The story goes that the bat is able to transform itself into a man at night and it has also been blamed for rapes of women.
Sheikh Yahya Hussein, a prominent astrologer in Tanzania, claims that the demon is a spirit that is unleashed by witches to torment their opponents.
Belief in witchcraft and superstitions is widespread in Tanzania, especially in rural areas.
This post raised more questions then provided answers for me. I'll have to study this topic some more. I agree with some that was said, but other things stated left me scratching my head and wondering where on earth it came from. I'm going to do some of my own research, so if anyone else wants to post on this at a later date (maybe it will be me) feel free and maybe I can hop on board soon enough to ask questions.
