Silly and Irrelevant Question?
Posted : 7 Apr, 2011 05:06 AM

I asked a question on another thread and was told is was silly and irrelevant. The question was : Is it likely that a man on a deserted island with only a Bible would come up with Calvinism, Tulip, The Doctrines of Grace, Reformation Theology (all the same thing).

I think it is a totally relevant question and not silly at all. Here is why: If a person cannot read the Bible alone and come to Calvinism on their own then 'logically' Calvinism must come from a source outside the Bible.

So what do you think?

From a Christian perspective I am still looking for the doctrines of Grace, Grace is a bible truth, doctrine no.

Jude hit the nail on the head! No proof needed! james, We all see that twosparrows isn't just "debating you". What he's doing is standing against false doctrine and false teaching. If you would ever come to the Truth, you would have an awesome testimony about how God delivered you from the bondage of Calvinism! The bottom line is none of us want to see you or ryan either one so deceived by the enemy.

James replies;

Arminianism is false teaching and false doctrine.

The "bondage of Calvinism"? How about leaving the hyper-sentimental MAN glorifying, STUNTED view of God, sin, Salvation and the Christian life that is Arminianism!

You need to realize that the Calvinist Arminian divide is the deepest one in Christendom.

You can disagree, but don't think for a second I would become an Arminian.

Do you realize HOW MANY Scripture verses a person has to deny in order to do that? I can't just ignore them or remain ignorant of them like the average Arminian.

And now, since I have posted them on this group, and you have read them, YOU are responsible for knowing them also.

God is the one who saves, and HE decides who He will show mercy to.

1 Thessalonians 5:9: For God has not DESTINED US for wrath, BUT TO OBTAIN SALVATION through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I think a lot of people would be different. There are a lot of ways a person could interpret the Bible. Of course, the person on the island might sooner use the Bible as a table for his food or as a firestarter to help keep him warm. The Bible won't necessarily mean much if you are going to freeze to death that night without warmth.

James replies:

That divide is NOT "IN Christendom".

That divide is in the World.

James replies:

So, you are not Arminian, you just fight for everything that IS Arminian??

And both sides are wrong????

Enlighten me Jude........

The Arminians say Jesus died for everyone who ever lived.

The Calvinists say Jesus died specifically for the Elect.

What is your third way???

Lets hear your third way of EACH of the five points.

Oh, you can't do that?

Lets hear how you disagree with EACH of the five points of Arminianism.

I will be waiting......

James

I guess in your world James, there are those that are Calvinists, and then there are those that are Arminians, and if one doesn't agree with you but just happens to have a belief about something that aligns with an Arminian belief, then they are automatically Arminian?

James wrote - "The Arminians say Jesus died for everyone who ever lived."

Don't know exactly what the Arminians say. Truthfully, I've never read anything written by them. But Scripture says that Christ paid the penalty for the sins of all mankind.

James wrote - "The Calvinists say Jesus died specifically for the Elect."

Agreed. That's what THEY say. But it's not what Scripture says.

James thank you for continually reminding us you are not interested in what the bible says.

Well, 71 I think it is fairly simple.

We are talking about five points of doctrine.

there are Christians who will tell you they are "four pointers".

Calvary Chapel is a denomination with churches all over America, and they are a four point denomination, meaning they believe in four points of Calvinism but not Unconditional Election.

Now, in Arminianism the last point is STILL undecided.

Arminians are divided on whether or not a true Christian can lose their salvation.

So, I think if you believe the first four points of Arminianism, then that is what you are.

If you believe that the Fall messed mankind up, but that people still have free will, and have the ability to choose Jesus.

If you believe that God only 'chooses' someone base upon if they decide to have faith or not.

If you believe that Jesus died for everyone, but that God's grace CAN be resisted.....

Then you are Arminian. Some will add, "and you CAN lose your salvation" and some will say you can't.

In Christ,

James
