Ecclesiastes 9:11

So I would like to get others perspective on this verse:

The race is not to the swift,

Nor the battle to the strong,

Nor bread to the wise,

Nor riches to men of understanding,

Nor favor to men of skill;

But time and chance happen to them all.

12 For man also does not know his time:

Like fish taken in a cruel net,

Like birds caught in a snare,

So the sons of men are snared in an evil time,

When it falls suddenly upon them.

I've always found this verse fascinating. I have for a long time believe there is so much random luck involved in our lives, where we end up in life, what things happen to us. And this verse seems to confirm those beliefs of mine. Yet it is also difficult for me to reconcille that with the sovergnty of God and God being in control. I've heard an explanation, but not one that I can agree with. Your views?

As always, your only contribution to the topic at hand was an attempt to start an argument with P.J.

This is a new year! Move on! Post something uplifting !

The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up.

The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

Ecclesiastes is a Book we all need to study.

Let's be wise with our words.

Deborah

OK Deborah since you are so wise, give me council on how you would deal with a rank heretic that spews false offensive doctrines constantly?

Personally I do not think uplifting words will help someone who is so far gone, and what I have said does not come close to rebuke either, just stating facts, but I am open for suggestions.

PJ & MrRow,

I think this is a matter of semantics, to explain;

Lets say I am working with a young horse that is acting up and you walk by and say "that horse is out of control" to which I respond, "yes he might be out of control, but I have dealt with youngsters like this before and I assure you the situation is under control.

God does not micro-manage forcing everything to happen or not,rather He has the big picture under control.

Romans 8:20" For creation was subjected to frustration not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,...."

Do you think GOD is in control every partial of dust that falls behind you refrigerator? Or the design of a snow flake? Where every rain drop falls? When, where and to whom you were born to? Who your friends are? Who your wife is? Who you kids are? Did He not knit you together in the womb and gave you the personality you are now? Does He not guide your feet to keep you from danger of to blessings? Does he make one rich and one poor for His purpose? Or one health and another lame to bring His name glory? Who holds you down and keeps you from flying off the face of a planet traveling 24,000 mph? Who placed the earth the exact distance from the sun that if it was even 10' closer or farther in it's orbit life could not bare the cold or heat from the sun?

Go read last couple of chapters of Job and you will get 84 rhetorical questions better than mine. I see a GOD who is in TOTAL control of EVERYTHING!

And this is not my best argument for GOD being in control of everything!
