Young Earth Creation or Theistic evolution?

I listened to a message a couple weeks ago that pointed out that Isaiah 45:18 and Gen. 1:2 are at odds. Either they contradict each other or there is another explanation.

How can we reconcile these two verses?

What are your thoughts?

@grace

I neither support nor deny the" gap" theroy. Scripture is not clear enough on this point to accept or reject it. And there are "clues" in scripture that point either way. Although the Isaiah passage is interesting, taken in context; at the time of Isaiahs writing; Palestine was empty and chaotic and God did not create it to be so.

Trucker, you said:

"Might i ask,what has this got to be doing with ones Salvation,sanctification or their relationship with Yeshua?"

My answer: not much, but it sure is an interesting topic.

@bcpianoangel:

My question then would be;

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin..

What does this have to do with one's salvation? Plenty.

First, it speak to the authority of the Bible. The pastors point of view is that the Bible is contradicting itself. If the Bible contradicts itself, then it is not inerrant, and therefore cant be trusted. He is trying to stuff into the Bible something that is not there. As a side note, if he is trying to use the gap theory to explain the fossil record, even though the fossils are ugly, you can hardly say they do not have a shape or form. You still cant stuff the fossil record into that word.

Second, and the most important, is that if there was life and death before Adam and Eve, then Jesus death on the cross was in vain. Before Adam and Eve sinned, there was no death. Death is the result of sin.

Romans 6:23 (NASB) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:12 (NASB) Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned

If there was death before Adam and Eve, then that means that their sin did not cause it, and contradicts Romans. Therefore, you would not need the death and resurrection of Jesus.

I stay away from anyone who tries to stuff an entire argument in one single obscure word in the Bible. Gets back to another rule of Biblical interpretation Always interpret the obscure in the light of that which is clear.
