There are many false converts out there claiming to be Christians. If someone that claimed to be a Christian commits suicide there would seem to be missing perseverance that is a characteristic of a true convert. But on this side we can only hope for the best to comfort those who have been deeply effected and then examine ourselves to see if we are in the truth.
It is not always a selfish act. Some people take their own lives to spare their families the emotional and financial costs of a terminal disease. Mental illness is also a heavy reason to end it. Chronic debilitating depression is one example
So if I kill myself right now I can go to heaven? Where's the koolaid!? I disagree pianogal...suicide is a sin...and I'd be extremely careful about saying stuff like that. I know someone that killed themselves so they could be in heaven quicker. It is a selfish mindset. If you commit suicide, you usually don't care what happens to anyone else(unless you're terminally ill), and you definitely don't care that maybe you could have led someone to Jesus if you would have sacrificed your life to God instead of "giving up". If a person does something that they know is a sin and they don't ask forgiveness...then I don't think they'll make it to heaven. They must repent and turn away or they have chosen to live in sin. If they didn't know suicide is a sin, that would be one of the only times I could see a "suicide" making it to heaven.
I have been a devote Christian for 30 yrs of my life, serving the LORD diligently, I get in an argument with my wife and leave the house angry, and in my rage I run a red light and get hit by a truck and I'm killed in the accident. No chance for reconciliation with my wife, no chance for repentance towards God. Do I go to hell because the last act I did on earth was sinful??? I surely hope not! My trust is in Jesus Christ getting me to heaven not what I do right before I die.
We all have sin even after we are saved because we all have inherited Adam's sinful nature.
Its the new nature that dwells in us from the second Adam {Christ} that gives us a sinless nature. A believer has two natures and a believer is no longer subject to sin although we do.
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
LOL....Row, if you spent 30 yrs. serving the Lord, and you had an argument with your wife or with anyone and left the house or wherever angry. I would have to bring into question your total commitment in serving the Lord as a faith servant. Coz, after 30 yrs. of serving the Lord, firstly, you would know that Jesus teaches that its ok, to get angry, but we are to SIN NOT. He also teaches that we're not to allow the sun to go down on our anger, or even go to bed angry, which means get anger address the problem(s) that caused the anger, and get over it.
Secondly, if you left the house in a rage, and ran a red light and got killed, then I say, you deserve to be dead:ROFL: coz, What goes on in the house should STAY IN THE HOUSE!:nahnah: where's the insureance policy?:dancingp::peace:
LET'S LET THE TRUTH ABOUT SUICIDE BE KNOWN! SUICIDE IS SIN, AND YOU WILL GO TO HELL! IT IS AN UNREPENTANT SINS! PERIOD! NO ONE GETS INTO HEAVEN WHO HAS NOT REPENTED OF THEIR SINS!. YOU CAN'T REPENT IF YOU'RE DEAD!
There are NO excuses, there are NO problems! There are NO sicknesses or diseases, There is NO amount of depression. There is NO amount of pain and suffering that give cause for a person to commit suicide. Killing yourslef IS NOT a reason to end any thing, it is only a person's beginnign for even mors suffering, and pain, becasue in hell you will suffer more than what you what you ever experienced on earth.
God says to PRAY and REPENT of your sSINs. People kill themsleves out of anger, shame, selfishness, and PRIDE, because, they have not repented of their sins. People who kill themselves because of a sickness, just don't know or understand that we are made and called by God to suffer in order to bring our relationship closer to God Nor to keep you out of hell! If Jesus had to endure suffering, OH, WHAT ABOUT US? If Jesus had to PRAY, OH< WHAT ABOUT YOU? God says He will deliver us out of all our problem when we PRAY... but those who kill themselves are selfish, rebellious, and full fo pride, thinking their problems are over, and some kill themsleves because they think they will cause family or friends the same pain they are feeling out of anger. They refuse to call upon the name of the Lord during trying times...and what does the Bible say when you're in problems?
Sure, the devil encourages a person to kill him/herslef. The devil is on his job, God is on His job even the more, and He has said to call out His name and he will make a way for escape. BUT PRIDE which isof the devil, is allowed to stand in our way from calling out the name of Jesus.
If a person prays BEFORE they commit suicide, don't you think God will answer? Sure He will.
Marika, I don't Jesus or John says that blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the ONLY unforgiveable sin. And Jesus did/does amke mention when He says Thou SHALL NOT KILL, and murdering one's self is killing! What more should be said? Ask Judas, the Bible says he KILLED himself. our society are the ones who coined the phrase suicide, so you wouldn't find the word suicide in the Bible, but you do find KILL or Murder. God calls it KILLING or Murder, and murderers who do not repent are punished in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. Anyoen who kills or murders him/herself can't repent, so their resting place will be in hell!
As I asked, how can a person repent of their sins when he/she has murdered or killed him/herself. There is no way possible. Our sins are forgiven AFTER we have repented
To all those who have loved ones as I, who have taken the law of life into their own hands and determined that killing him/herself was the Only way out. Let it be known that the pain of killing or murdering (suicide) is a hard load for those who continue to try and be overcomers and endure until the end of our troubles.
When a person murders him/herself It causes much grief when there is a suicide, only because the person who kills him/selsef proves out to be a disappointment to us, and it causes the lving to lose respect for the one who dies by suicide. How foolish for a person to end their life when it only takes saying Lord, have mercy on me... for me to to think that a person would end their lfie out of pride, and not live out of love toward family or friends, is more grief than greiving over the person who is dead.
Too many young people are killing themselves many think is cute. SUICIDE IS MURDER! AND MURDER IS SIN! AND ALL UNREPENTANT SIN...YOU GO TO HELL!
lEARN TO ENDURE DIFFICULT TIMES, LEARN TO BE AN OVERCOME. jESUS TELLS US OVERCOMERS ARE THE ONE WHO RECEIVE THE REWARD OF HEAVEN. Face your problems, sickness and worries, YOUR OWN SINS as God says we are to do by calling upon the name of the Lord, AND THROUGH REPENTANCE!
Jesus' very first sermon in the start of His ministry was REPENT! FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND!.
So if I commit a sin right before I die that I can't repent of, I go to hell??? I am not saying suicide is ok, but you are saying that unrepentant sin will send you to hell. First off, it would be impossible for me to repent of every single sin I have ever committed. What about the sins you don't know about? That is a confusing doctrine.
I think we are missing the real issue here and that is a right understanding of God, we are missing the importance of Gods work of preservation. Someone who is "truly" saved will endure to the end. Someone killing themselves is proof that they didn't endure to the end, and it could be a sign they were a false convert all along. But we still don't know for sure to be able to say all suicides go to hell, I do think it is a forgivable sin. I am counting on when I got saved, that God forgave me of my past, present and future sins, because if He didn't we are all in a world of trouble! It is very likely I will be sinning upon death, I may not be putting God first in my life, I could be ling or coveting, I could have lust or anger in my heart or I could be working on the sabbath and we all know that is a damnable sin.
ET said: ...we are made and called by God to suffer in order to bring our relationship closer to God...
I agree with this statement 100%! But I just can't figure you out. ET you post some of the most theologicaly sound things on this site, then there are times you go off the deep end. How do you make a statement like this, then go pat someone on the back and say keep preachin your prosperity gospel heresy? That is no gospel, it only makes the world a better place to go to hell from?
Then this:
God says He will deliver us out of all our problem when we PRAY.
What verse tells us that? Please don't twist scripture to pull out an answer. Why do Christians still have problems that last for years, or never goes away, when they been praying deligently to be relived of those problems? I believe He gives us strength and comfort to endure through our hard times and our problems. He did said He will deliver us from our sins. No one goes to hell for their problems or mistakes we learn and grow from them.
The Bible is like a prisoner of war, if you tourcher it enough it will tell you what you want it to say.
Mark, I didn't say that suicide was not sin; it is sin. It is murder. And I agree with everyone who says that suicide is selfish.
I personally knew two men who committed suicide; both were strong Christians who were active in my church. BUT, both suffered from extreme clinical depression, and medication had not worked. Both men had MANY people praying for them regularly, and they had faith that God would help them overcome that depression. Both men finally felt they couldn't take it any more, and both men blew their brains out with a gun. One did it in his front yard in front of his wife; the other drove down the road to the EMS station and did it in the parking lot there in the middle of the night.
Were they selfish to kill themselves? Absolutely. Did they sin when they killed themselves? Yes. Do I think that I'll see them again in Heaven? Yes.
I think some of us here might have very different ideas of when sin is forgiven. I personally believe that God forgives ALL sin (past, present, and future) at the moment of salvation. It is only through His grace that we can go to Heaven, because without that grace, we are all dirty sinners who deserve to burn in hell.
To say that we must confess each sin after it happens would be to say that we must earn our way to Heaven; yes we should confess our sins, and yes we should repent from them and sin no more, but we are sinful humans and we will sin no matter how hard we try not to. I will not be sin-free until I'm in Heaven.
If I think a sinful thought about someone, then have a car wreck and die instantly before I have time to repent of that wrong thought, am I going to hell? No. If that were the case, I would have NO assurance of my salvation at any given time, because there are always sins that I've forgotten about (or didn't even recognize as sins) and not confessed and repented of. But I can rest assured in the fact that Jesus' blood covers ALL my sins.
This does not mean that we don't have to face any consequences of our sin here on earth, but we won't be judged for them in Heaven (unless we never truly accepted God's gift of salvation).
Some verses that I would use to back up my beliefs are as follows:
Romans 3:23 -- For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 6:23 -- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8-9 -- For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
John 6:47 -- Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
John 10:27-28 -- My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
Romans 8:1 -- There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
*** I realize that many of you might not agree with me, and that you can probably cite just as many (or more) Bible verses that prove your point of view. This is what I believe, though, and I have prayerfully studied it and have peace that this is what God says in His Word. Feel free to post your own beliefs, of course, but I will not argue with you. ***
