What is sin and how should we treat it?Posted : 6 Oct, 2010 01:43 PMSo I've been a bit curious about this lately, with all the stuff in the news and everything. Why do a lot of Christians tend to tolerate and show compassion/forgiveness for atheists, adulterers, murderers, thieves, substance abusers(drunkenness/drugs/gluttony), etc...but when it comes to people of different beliefs/religions there seems to be a lot less tolerance? Isn't it all "sin", and shouldn't we be treating everyone with the same love? I mean...if we treated everyone that sinned like some people treat Muslims(for instance)...we'd never convert anyone. We'd become a religion of intolerance just like their religion, right? They are part of the "world" and we're supposed to treat them just like everyone else, aren't we? |

What is sin and how should we treat it?Posted : 7 Oct, 2010 11:51 AMWell...I'm not saying we should "accept them" though. Just saying we should treat them like any other non-christian, and realize that our actions/motives witness to them. A good example would be how we accept people into the church. We shouldn't let unconverted people become "members/Christians", right? There are boundaries, and there should be boundaries. I guess I'm talking more about attitudes and motives. God is perfect. God loves everyone, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. If a sinner repents, all heaven rejoices, but He does/will punish/destroy sinners. Why? Because sin is a selfish disease that brings pain and suffering to everything. But does God have a "loving" attitude about it all? I think He does, and I think that's the attitude we should have. I think that attitude is "tolerance/passiveness even unto my own death...UNLESS I can save someone by my actions. Then make the victory complete/final". That seems to be the attitude Jesus has about stuff. |

What is sin and how should we treat it?Posted : 8 Oct, 2010 08:21 AM:rolleyes: Wasn't talking about us giving eternal salvation to someone...was talking about putting your life on the line to save someone else. It's possible for us to save someone's "mortal life", or to spare them from pain by our actions. |

What is sin and how should we treat it?Posted : 9 Oct, 2010 02:14 PMSin is people making themselves the ultimate authority on the world instead of God. Everything that we all consider to be sin is just a symptom of the actual problem. |
