JUST IN FROM ANOTHER THREAD: TONGUES

In reading the Book of Acts, I see that Peter wasn't part of the groups that spoke in tongues. Peter had a better gift of knowing what was happening and explaining it and harvesting a crop of new believers.

Looking at Paul's writings, it is obvious that not all Christians should be speaking in tongues. They should pray to receive the greater gifts.

I think one of the greatest gifts is of those who no matter where they go they wind up helping someone accept Christ.

Here is something that most folks don't know. Among the Hindu followers, there is speaking in tongues.

Years ago, I met a woman (1st date) and I knew by her church that speaking in tongues was a big item. I told her that I had a problem with the teaching people how to speak in tongues. Doesn't the Holy Spirit know how to just give it? She replied that she really didn't teach them but instead let them watch and listen so that they got the idea.

Funny thing is; it doesn't sound like a language. There is too much rhyming and too much repeating of words. The worst case was a pastor saying, "To drink,......to drink, to drink, to drink. To drink!"

I have even run across folks who claim that God can't hear prayers that are not in tongues. No body gets saved I guess.

OKAY! LET THE BRONCS OUT OF THE CORALS AND LETS RIDE 'EM COWBOYS AND COWGIRLS:yay::bouncy:

Any time a spiritual gift becomes more important or gets more attention than the giver of the gift....You can be sure; you've gotten off track!

ACTS 1

Jesus gives final instructions before going up into Heaven. Discples meet and organize. They pick a replacement for Judas. Later in Acts the Lord picked Paul.

Are you looking for John 20:22 where Jesus says, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

That is not from God. That is from the author of confusion.

Every person does not receive the TRUE gift of tongues. If a person does not speak in tongues that does not mean they are lost and it does not mean they do not have the holy spirit. If someone says that speaking in tongues is not a sign of salvation that does not mean they are unsaved or speaking against the holy spirit.

Since satan also gives a gift of tongues; the gift of tongues is not a sign of salavation either way. Actually the same can be applied to the other spiritual gifts as the motivation in a persons heart is unknown to others. Off hand; without some research; I can recall no where in the word that says gifts are a sign we truly belong to God. But I can recall many passages that refer to "fruit" being a sign that one belongs to God.

Friends the only requirement for salvation is confessing Jesus as your Lord and Savior.Anything else is gravy.

I am disturbed that only tongues was put in the title.

Some will speak in tongues, others prophcy, heal, Ect.

Why single out one gift? Does that make sense?

There is also the gift of wisdom.

Yes, I speak in tongues, No I do not have the gift of healing.

I am not a prophet.

I would hope that you think my response here is a wise one.

:peace:

I hope that the auther does not put one gift above others.

Different gifts for different people.

Your brother in Christ,Dennis

PS. I belive we can stop with the insults too.You know who you are. Thanks
