No sir, history has nothing to do with the word of God.

False teaching is false teaching, it is very simple.

"Garrett, I do not believe you can influence the average calvinist, but the reponse is for others that would look at the lies.

Look at Jesus with those that opposed him."

This actually makes sense. I guess the issue is then knowing when enough has been said about the issue at hand.

In Christ

PhillipJohn, you are right that the course of history is no proof for the teaching. But still, we all live in our traditions, and we all rely on what people said about the bible, if we know it or not.

You for example seem to rely on the dogma of Lutheran orthodoxy, that the scripture was verbaly inspired, right?

It is certainly not sufficient to read Luther, Cavin, Augustine or Chrysostomos, we need the bible in the first place. But all thse later writers can show us ways to understand the bible better. So why should I read here in the forum, if all I need to know is in the bible? Because some people here give me new insights into what is written in the bible, God uses them to teach me.

In the sam way, God uses the old authors to teach people. I have found it to be very helpful to read Luther or Calvin once in a while... and also some of the others.

And of course the word of God has to do with histry, because it was active troughout history and we can see its works if we open our eyes. Slavery is abolished, women have same rights as men (independent from whether it is good to practise all rights, I don't want to discuss the role models here), they are finally equal in society as they are equal before God. If you know Christ you see Him having been active troughout the ages, the only thing you cannot do i to take history as a revelation of God (that's what people said when they claimed Hitler to be a new Messiah, this thought has been very popular among wide parts of German church back then). History is the result of the revelation of God.

People do not believe in Calvin, but they accept what he taught as right because they find it written in the bible, an approach that should be a very valid one for you if I ever unerstood you right.

God bless you

None of us will be saved by his knowledge of the bible.

We will only be saved by faith. And what is that faith?

That God loved us so much, that He sent His only begotten Son for His precious blood to be shed in order to pay for our deep sins.

So how do we live?

Loving God with all our heart, mind and spirit and the other person just as much as we love ourselves.

You do not know how to do that?

Read the bible for it contains the truth.

You can keep arguing the ins and outs of any doctrine or teaching... no individual can define the whole complete truth for the whole complete world. Only God can and so He did. We can all read the part that concerns us in the bible. If we ask, He will reveal that particular part to us. We can also trust Him that He will reveal the part for others HIMSELF. And if God needs any help, He will call you.

Now you all tell me something: when a believer falls down on his knees and confesses that God is in command of his life and asks Him to lead the way.

Does it make any difference in what church he does that? Does it make any difference if that person is a calvinist, a baptist, a catholic or just an ordinary sinner?

Absolutely it most certainly makes a difference where a believer's goes to Church.

@PhillipJohn: Harriet didn't ask where the sinner goes to church, but where he falls on his knees... but that might be splitting hair...

I would say that it wouldn't make a difference even if he was Hindu and fell on his knees in a Hindu temple, for God is not restricted to certain places, He grabbed Paul even without him asking to be lead, for as being a Pharisee he thought he knew the way by himself.

God can answer every prayer for guidance, even prayers to false Gods, and why should he not do so, leading the nonbelievers to Christ? If a Muslim knows no way out in his life because all went wrong and he feels miserable and goes to the mosque and asks his Allah for guidance, why shouldn't God lead him to Christ and so help him?

I agree with one part history will reveal what others have believed, but my choice is to stick with the word of God, and if i look to history it will be unto those that got the same results as Jesus did and as we see the the first believer's in the book of acts, The book of acts is still being written. Men and women are still preaching the word and getting the same results as Jesus did, just as scripture says.
