INTRODUCTION

Before Happy Easter, christianity worldwide experiences the most bitter and traumatic event in their religion. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Many rather skip this Friday as it is so very painful and sad. But the Gospel does extensively describe it.

Just before dying, Jesus cried out these words : Eli Eli lama sabachtani. [Matt 27:46 and Marc 15:34]

My question is: why did Jesus say this?

I could give you my personal view or some options but I prefer to leave it fully open. I herewith invite you to give YOUR opinion. WHY DID JESUS SAY THESE WORDS? Please feel free to participate.

"Could God have left Jesus alone in this so agonizing moment because of the fact that all our sins were loaded upon Jesus and God turns away from sin. Jesus, always aware of the presence of His Father, notices this immediately and cries out these words?"

As I understand it this is exactly what was said before about God leaving Jesus because of sin.

Or did I miss anything. I also wouldn't speak of God as opposite to Jesus, I'd say Father and Jesus. I cannot think of a Jesus quote in scripture where Jesus addresses God other than "Father"...

Do any of you know, this got me curious now...:yay:

The fact that Jesus went to hell when he died, further lets you know that gods presence left him on the cross. How else could the son oof god who never sined in his whole life go to hell.

I think we need to look at this in conte4xt of the whole Scripture. In the first place Father, Son and Holy Spirit were all involved in writing the Scriptures. They were all written in advance of the creation of the earth. The decision for Jesus to come to the earth was made prior to creation. THis had to be the case or there wouldn't have been the need to spill the blood of animals to literally cover sinful man in the Garden of Eden. This was the first prophetic act showing the plan of redemption and more of the plan was revealed as time went on.

My point is that when Jesus was on the cross He would not have been surprised when God turned His back on Him and it became dark. What's more, the Father was not surprised when Jesus became sin for us. This had all been part of the plan which is the reason there are Scriptures in the OT that prophesy of the crucifixion. Jesus did not go to hell because he had become sin. Jesus never sinned himself but He became sin for us. People go to hell for disobedience and Jesus was never disobedient. Jesus went to hell to preach to those who had died in faith in the coming Messiah and he lead them out of hell into heaven.

Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Eph 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

Eph 4:10 I am not sure where the idea of Jesus going to hell came from but there is no Biblical evidence that He ever went to hell when He died. I think this idea might have come from the Papacy. Perhaps as support for the Catholic teaching that people can be prayed out of hell? Not sure though.

Point made TOG but there are a few things.

First off Jesus did know that he was going to have to go bear sin and that the father would leave him, he knew it becuase it was written and it is the way things had always worked ever since creation was formed.but even though he knew it, it still affected him very very deeply when it happened. Jesus had walked with his father in perfect harmony ever since he was born untill he hang on the cross so when his father left him it hurt him deeply, probably more deeply than the pain of the cruxifiction itself, possibly the reason that Jesus died so quickly after that.

Jesus also did go to hell there are several bible verses that deal with this;

examples

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

1 Peter 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Mathew 12 [40] For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

By laws of gods creation Jesus had to go to hell, he was bearing all the sin ever in exstence of the universe and gods presence was not on him when he died. Jesus also had to get the keys of death and destruction from hell itself he conquered death itself so that whoever recieves his holy spirit will not die but live forever.

Another thing on which there is much speculation, is that everybody that died before jesus went to hell, i dont believe that. There are references that say that the prophets and people that followed god went to parradise or abrahams bossom. This was supposed to be an area across from hell seperated by gods mercy (see the parable Luke 16:22-23 in Jesus' story of Lazarus and the Rich Man). Another reason that i think this way is remeber Jesus spoke to Abraham Moses and Elijah on the mountain. Jesus died and went to hell he was tormented for 3 days and nights and after that my point of view is that he left hell went to paradise preached and freed gods people then took them to heaven.
