How do you know the bible is the inspired word of God?
Posted : 22 Feb, 2010 06:18 PM

this is the question that is posed to me quite often.

A co-worker told me today that he is reading the book of Enoch and said it gives alot of details about the demons that fell having intercourse with the inhabitants of the land and that was why God flooded the earth. He asked me my thoughts and I said, I think it would be wise to read the bible before getting into other things that we dont really know of.

He argued that the bible doesnt make sense and that there are other books out there that give more details.

anyway, then he says, man put together the bible, King James wasnt even a christian, how do we know that he didnt just throw any books together. Then the others agreed. needless to say I was outnumbered (again). so, how do you talk sense into people that 1. dont have the holy spirit and 2. think we (christians)are brainwashed.

I believe the bottom line is when he's ready, he'll know. but I know he's searching...and that is what matters. What do you think?

If you're trying to prove the bible, show them all the prophecies t hat link up through the whole thing. From beginning to end there's a timeline to the future, and most of it's been proven through history...the rest hasn't happened yet. Just be careful though...because prophecy is the most confusing thing in the bible....on purpose...

Archimedes,

You are correct about the canon of the Scripture. I just didn't want to go into detail about it because that was not my objective.

I also agree with your approach in talking to people about the Bible. I think the subject should be Jesus and not the Bible. Everything is debatable and we have to be able to discern who wants a circular debate and who wants information.

Archeology is a good way too. Bible history is literally buried in the dirt. :party:

Hi Guys,

wasnt looking for a debate.

sometimes your in situations that get you all flustered and your mind goes blank...well mine obviously did :)

Everybody in my department is a man except me, plus I am the only christian. They are nice people but sometimes they gang up on me and want me to prove things, I've really had it up to here (my eyeballs). Silly guys(jk)...anyway, everything you all said is great advice and I appreciate it. Sometimes God lets that happen I'm thinking I may need to be humbled...ugh, hate when that happens.

the scripture Cattle gave was what soothed my mind, John 6:44...God is so good.

but my thought initially was prove it archaeologically, thanks Rapio:)

they basically think a bunch of people got together and cast lots to see what books went into the original canon. :goofball: I am interceding for them and know from experience that it usually gets worse before it gets better.

Thanks again for everyones input!

i sometimes want to drive the point home but, ugh maybe it's patience that I need :stop:

It's all in God's timing :)

Love and Blessings

Jennifer

1st He obviously is thinking about God , he reads other books to use to find the answers. He stated the Bible doesn't make sense. Ok well that is why you need to tell him pray for the Holy Spirits help. It is inspired by the Author, sometimes when we need help it just takes a tiny seed of faith to pray for help. I suggest to ask them if they believe in prayer? like asking someone for help such as a teacher when you don't understand something. Remember the scripture when I was a child I thought like a child or 1 Peter 2-2:3 when Jesus stated Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. You should tell him we all need to grow in the word the bible may not make sense at 1st but don't stop there. You will begin to grow and God is gracious and makes it easier to learn and follow. Did the bible seem to make sense to all of us at one point in time. We get educated and learn later and God helps those pieces to fit.

I hope this can help you put some pieces together the next time you have this conversation and remember River you should ask for the Holy Spirits help to do so. Remember you carry a name of the most High your victory to win is already been done....God Bless GivenLife

King James Version (KJV)

verse 6 says you shall not be confused.

All this scripture should help you out.

1 Peter 2

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

18Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Cattle,

I love the NKJV. I was locked up and ordered a KJV, but they sent the NKJV. Best thing that could have happened to me.

I still study with it about half the time.

Blessings,

Leon
