1 These are the decrees and laws you must be careful to follow in the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possessas long as you live in the land.
...
11 Then to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his Namethere you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the LORD. 12 And there rejoice before the LORD your God, you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the Levites from your towns, who have no allotment or inheritance of their own."
Deuteronomy 14
22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.
Walter is correct in that it is not a commandment or law anymore. However it carries huge promises from our Father if we will do it.
In Malachi we read one of the strongest promises in the Bible.
Mal 3:10 Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. And test Me now with this, says Jehovah of Hosts, to see if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you, and pour out a blessing for you, until there is not enough room.
Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke your devourer, and he shall not decay the fruit of your ground against you; nor shall your vine miscarry against you in the field, says Jehovah of Hosts.
Mal 3:12 And all nations shall call you blessed; for you shall be a delightful land, says Jehovah of Hosts.
This is the only place in the Bible that God tells us to test Him on something. Powerful scriptures.
I am aware of all those scriptures, but since the Old Covenant has passed away, it does not apply. There is no tabernacle to support, no Levites to feed. Jesus is our Head Priest.
However, God's promise is God's promise, so the blessing part still is true.
And all pastor, teachers shall survive on air because the LORD only provide to the Levites only. And Paul said "On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made." 1 Corinthians 16:2
You:And all pastor, teachers shall survive on air because the LORD only provide to the Levites only. And Paul said "On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made." 1 Corinthians 16:2
Me: Context, context, context. This money was to keep the tabernacle in Jerusalem going. This church was full of people doing well and had previously offered to help. Paul told them he didn't want to take up an offering while he was there because he didn't want people to feel compelled to give.
Paul worked as a tentmaker to support himself as he went about starting churches and preaching the gospel.
I am not saying titheing is wrong, just voluntary.
The issue is about tithing is it not, the bible does not says tithe is of the Mosiac post it clearly show it existed before that covenant.
It was wriiten in this post that Abraham tithed once, so that was not tithing, the bible does not say he tithed once, it is only recorded once.
Gen !4:17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the kings dale.
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
23 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Notice what Abraham Said to the priest, I will not take anything of thine.
The bible teaches that Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So he tithed by faith.
The lord choose Abraham because he would teach is children after him.
This passage comes in to the new testament very extensively,
Melchizedek was mentioned one time and it was concerning the tithe and this is spoken of in Hebrews.
We know have a new priest after the order of Melchizedek, or another to give our tithe to.
Hebrews does record that Melchizedek received tithes of Abraham
As for me Hebrews make sit very clear in the seventh chapter
We know have a high priest after the order of Melchizedek and the bible records one act of Melchizedek's
If one be willing and obedient he shall eat the good of the land.
Consider this, John1:17 told us that Jesus come not to give us a new law, the only law given is the Mosiac law. Now you said the law is gone. Therefore there is no Law! But the in 1 John 3:4 told us lawlessness is sin. So can be the law be done away? So if the law said that not tithing is equivalent to robbing, can you legalized it? If you do so, that means lawlessness has creep in.
