Regarding some recent discussions...
Posted : 15 Feb, 2010 08:35 PM

I know Ole Cattle has already hit on this on a few threads, but I wanted to draw more attention to what he said simply because I imagine a lot of people stopped reading the LONG arguments before seeing what was said. The longer I've been on these forums, the more I've seen it. Instead of encouraging each other, many people get sucked into "heated" debates with one another. It's happened to me on occasion. Sometimes I catch myself before... sometimes I let loose. It's a matter of self-control, as well as a few other fruits of the Spirit. I hope that we can try and revert to our peaceful discussions with one another. I know that not everyone agrees with everyone else on here, but we are ALL believers in Christ Jesus, and we are ALL equally loved by God. Let us treat each other with a little more respect. I'm not saying to refrain from sharing your opinions! Just be careful how you do so. Be considerate. And... keep Titus 3 verses 9 and 10 in mind. Saying the same thing over and over again probably won't change anyone's mind. (It won't change THIS hard-headed mind, anyways! lol) Peace and Love to everyone here.

In Christ

Garrett

My quote to share on this matter:

If we all loved and embraced it in peace, Instead of turning to the passion of feeling right, everyone would win :) GivenLife

Garrett and Given,

Your words are very true but in order to achieve this, people have to be "willing" to be wrong in what they believe and eliminate their pride. It doesn't matter if we are right or wrong. What matters is that we pursue studying God's word so that we learn the truth no matter the cost even if it means switching churches or losing fellowship with people because they cannot accept what you have come to believe which is now different that what they do.

Blessings!

Walter

I haven't posted very much in these forums for several reasons. The main on being that I find alot of bickering and highmindedness in them. It seems that there is put-downs and thinking of one's self as better than others in alot of the posts. To me that is not being Christian in any aspect of the word. The scripture tells us to stand up for the right but also to not put stumblng blocks in front of our brothers and sisters. If you can't speak in an edifying way then you probably shouldn't speak in the first place.

Mimi,

Please forgive me for using your post as an example, it was just the easiest to use because it was last. It is nowhere near some of the others so, please don't get angry, I am not really talking about you.

These are the kind of posts that I find offensive. They in no way discuss a bible subject but are all about character assassination. They talk about the shortcomings of people in a conversation they were not even a part of. This seems to me to be nothing more than gossip and holier than thou attitude.

If we are censoring posts, shouldn't these also be censored? But where do you stop? A Catholic could be offended by all the people who say they were raised that way and then got saved. There is no end once you start censoring, that is why it is illegal for our government to do it.

I am NOT trying to make people angry or downplay how out of line I have been a couple of times here. I know better and I need to do some soul searching to discover why I acted that way. I do think we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard, but where does it end?

Food for thought,

Leon

P.S. I am not saying that some restrictions do not need to be placed and enforced on the forums, they obviously do.

I do think that a written, self explanatory notice should be posted so the censorship does not get out of control.

When talking religion, we can never be completely politically correct because there will always be someone that is offended, no matter what is posted. (This applies to the bible study section only).

Anyway, those are my thoughts on this. In short, rules are needed, but they should be posted so as not to keep growing to include everything.

Blessings,

Leon

No I am not mad.

I know I wasn't part of the original conversation. I was just posting an opinion about the type of conversation that took place. I don't think of myself as being above others and was including myself in my opinion.

Thanks Mimi,

We all know you were just an innocent bystander in all this. That was the main reason I chose your post to make my point. I didn't want anyone to think I was picking on them again.

Blessings,

Leon

leon,

may i ask u a question in ur post u said that some were joining into a discussion they were not apart of aint that the point of the forums? i come in on the butt end alot of times and i have also left some because the way ppl acted.

saying that would make me think u dont want ppl to join in, but now i could of just took it wrong.

anyway we also as Christian should not wear our feelings on our sleeves. we r not going it agree on everything but my pastor says lets just agree to disagree.

i really like to hear others opinons on scripture or whatever makes me think. and anything that makes me think is a good thing.

Hi Tru,

I was talking about those that want to run in and join the bandwagon on putting people down for the way they debate the bible. Most are people who never post in this area anyway, and don't understand the passions of people who dedicate most of their life to studying God's word.

I know for a fact that there are some serious students of God's word here. I have spent tens of thousands of hours in the Word and I am a novice compared to some of these guys.

While knowledge itself doesn't save us. We understand the danger of being deceived in these times.

I welcome anyone who is here to learn and not condemn.

Blessings,

Leon
